Square D - HOM120DFC Homeline 20-Amp Single-Pole Dual Function Circuit Breaker, 1-Inch Format

When we bought our home, we noticed that outlets in one of our bath rooms did not work. Using one of those plug-in testers, the lights reflected "Hot & Gnd Rev" (hot and ground reversed? That is a scary thought). Yet when I checked the outlets, the wiring was correct and likewise the GFI switch at our breaker panel was wired correctly. The only thing I noted was that the test button did not throw the switch to the off position. I was concerned that the builder drove a nail thru the wiring somewhere and never addressed it further. Years later I revisited this "Honey-Do" item and thought, what the heck, let's try a new breaker and hopefully prove my original theory wrong. It worked! What I liked most was this price was cheaper than our local hardware (albeit more expensive than a std breaker) and I was in no rush to get the part. This breaker also has duel protection (GFI and Arc Fault). Made me a happy camper to get one more "To-Do" item off my list.

I replaced a defective breaker, this was simple to install, the entire job took 15 minutes. Remove the panel cover, turn off the breaker, remove the wire from the broken breaker, remove it from the panel and reverse it all to be done. Works perfect!

This is a circuit breaker with both ground fault and arc fault protection built-in. This version has a neutral pigtail for use with load centers without a plug-on neutral bar.With that being said, I've installed about 12 so far for a home remodel. It may be overkill unless your area is on the latest code, but the previous homeowner obviously did lots of electric work himself but should never have even touched a screwdriver.Of the 12, none have given me problems. But of the 12, 2 kept tripping due to arcing faults in the house wiring that I had to track down and replace. So I can definitely say these work from a safety point of view.Do note in the picture that these stick out twice as wide as a standard circuit breaker, so you'll probably have to re-arrange some wiring in the load center. And of course your neutral wire has to reach to the circuit breaker itself since both the hot and neutral attach to the breaker.

This is the exact replacement for what was in my Panel at a good price too. This is the only one that works for my GFCI setup too.

The unit is MUCH longer that I might have expected. I had to re-route all the wiring to retrofit it into a smaller (4 circuit) box, and barely got it to go. I intended to put two of 'em in there; no way.

NEC 2020 National Electric Code requires this inside the breaker box for the Kitchen and Laundry outlets, in addition to GCFI outlets near water. I had an electrician install these because it is a little difficult getting it right, and I wanted it done right.It is worth it..
