Absolutely, completely outstanding ironing centre.
This is the most advanced domestic ironing system on the market. Laurastar are a Swiss based International company who manufacture high end, technology featured professional irons. Firmly placed between demanding domestic and professional ironing services, this system combines the best of irons with the latest technology. To make ironing less of a chore, Laurastar offer a bookable personalised demonstration to help you after purchase. Not only that but they also offer a very comprehensive training guide covering a wide range of garments from shirts to sequins, tablecloths to bedding. They have thought of so much to assist you in making ironing easier. Another benefit comes from the Laurastar club. Free to owners, you would have a 3 year guarantee (free upgrade current offer), dedicated tech support, offers on accessories along with regular hints and tips to get the most out of ownership. On their website you can purchase accessories such as sole plate protectors, garment covers and board covers. No doubt Amazon will host the whole range shortly, just type 'Laurastar' into the search box. Upon setup you find 6 height levels. The board has a blower underneath and a movement detector in the iron, so only the required amount of steam is used when ironing. The water for steam is filtered by cartridge and the unit is ready to use within 3 minutes. It's also 2200w (2.2kw) so pretty much in line with the European drive for more energy efficient electrical equipment. The unit is easy to use, store and move. The castors make it great to move around. What really sets this apart from the rest is the app. It tracks your ironing time, reminds you to check the filter, connects to the training guides and helps you iron silk, cotton and wool. The iron itself weighs 1.1kg and is sturdy enough to grip and glide across the imprinted board guide lines for perfect creases. Moving onto unit operation, the blower under the cover helps the iron glide effortlessly and the steam is 3 bar, very powerful for an iron, in line with commercial units actually. Use with the app and not forgetting to always use filtered water, or the iron can be damaged. Do spend time with the training videos, online resources and around the members club. They are all worth it for getting the best out of this capable and robust unit. For a great demonstration prior to purchase, paste the following onto youtube 'Laurastar Smart: Connected for smarter ironing'. In conclusion, this is a real innovation classic. The cost may be above general basic irons, however, this is a system which helps you get the best for your clothing, is full of useful guides and in my opinion is by far the very best ironing system on the market today.

Effective; bulky; built to last
First things first then; the box is huge an weighs a ton; unboxing is even more of a chore as you need a 12ft long space to slide it out. Once extracted, the system itself, although hefty, is at least more manageable as they have put wheels on the bottom of one of the legs, so it can easily be rolled around. This is the first inkling that you'll have that the designers have thought through the design extremely thoroughly. It also indicates the quality of the build; it is built to last. The next thing to do is install the Laurastar app which walks you through the set up the system, and later on, tutorials on how to iron. You'll need to install the anti-calcium filter (which protects the system) and run filtered water through the steam generator, before you get going. Here again I realised how well thought through the design was, as the top cover is shaped to also be used as a 'bucket' to catch the water flowing out of the bottom. In fact there are tonnes of similar, small examples of attention to detail throughout the design. There are attachments to suspend the steam tube above the table, keeping it out of the way, and a clip on baseplate for the ironing dedicates. Once you get going, ironing is noticeably faster than on a conventional board; the inflating board cover seems to help aligning the clothes correctly, and the steam iron works extremely quickly - moreso than a handheld steam iron I have. One of the key features of this iron is the bluetooth connectivity, which is used in a clever way; the system can detect what you're doing. For example the tutorials instruct you in how fast to move the iron, with feedback if you're going too quickly. However, while clever, I'm not convinced that having a connected iron adds a huge amount of value. Finally, the price tag. I try not to mention price in my reviews as it often changes and you the reader can make a judgement about value without my help. So normally I just focus on the product itself. However, it's hard to get past £1399 (present price) for an iron. I might be in a minority of one, but I think that there is an argument that it does represent value for money, when it's design, performance and build quality is balanced against the cost of, for example, a smartphone that costs almost as much and is replaced every year. However, for the majority of people a simpler and significantly cheaper alternative will give 90% of the results.

Expensive for a home - perhaps ideal if you Iron for others?
I must admit I got this FOC for review and I thought it was just a normal ironing board with a largely pointless bluetooth connection. Turns out it's not that at all - the giveaway was when it arrived - a huge big heavy box. Then I actually looked at what I was reviewing and seriously thought the price quoted on amazon was a mistake. Yes this is a quality piece of kit, but it's not that special and the sum of the parts appears to be worth much less than the price asked - which at the time of the review was a penny under £1400.00 So for the money I would have expected it to be supplied ready to use, with someone to do the ironing and be exceptionally easy to set up! It comes with a huge manual - although you really only need to read the first few pages to get up and running - we spent half an hour looking at the instructions to confirm that we'd got the various pieces in the correct places. And we didn't receive a member of staff to iron for us! First up is to fit the board cover - I'm convinced I haven't got this correct yet and intend to have another look tomorrow as it's loose at the moment and not a very good fit, then you have to flush the tank with warm water and then you are good to add water and turn it on. And here is where it surprised both myself and my wife. I managed to iron a very dry shirt in around 45 seconds - normally I faff about for ages - but somehow this kit made it very easy and the results (all automatic) were brilliant. We achieved the same result on every item we tried. The iron is heavy but that's balanced by how quickly you can attack the washing! So quick so easy and no messing with dials etc. You control theextra shots of steam and also the fan (in the board) from the iron. Even managed to connect via Bluetooth to app on an android mobile - but that really didn't add much to the party - although it does advise you when you need to descale so will be useful as the kit gets older. So overall - first thoughts remain that this is seriously overpriced for a household ironing system - but it is very good and if price is no object I can see it has a place in a busy large household or more likely where someone is ironing cloths for a living. So the decision is whether you need to spend this much for something that works well but maybe isn't that much better (if you are good at ironing) than something that costs many times less. Also its easy to change the height and also to fold flat when not in use - power cord neatly rewinds into the body as well. If I had the money then this or other models in the range would certainly feature in a wish list and if money is no object then this is certainly amongst the best and easiest iron's I've ever used. Thre3 stars overall - but 5 for operation - balanced against cost results in the 3 from me

A very good iron - though not perfect
I think it would be fair to say that this is the Rolls Royce of Irons. Designed in Switzerland, the pure focus of Laurastar irons is to be the best, but this comes at a colossal price. So what do you get for your money? Well, you get an iron. An iron built into an ironing board, which generates a lot of steam, and a board that can hold your clothes to the board as well as inflate itself in order to decrease creases. At this point, I need to deal with the reason why I docked a star. This is insanely heavy. The whole board and iron must weigh over 20KG, this means that if you need to keep this iron anywhere other than in the room where you iron and this trip includes even 3 stairs, I'd recommend against it. The iron does have nifty wheels built into the board, but they aren't great on deep pile carpet and obviously, do not help with stairs. Get past this issue, and yes, this iron is magnificent. The steam it produces is great and plentiful. The board's vacuum system does help to speed up the process and help you to iron better. In-fact I probably did shave a quarter of the time I'd usually spend ironing off. The size of the board helps too, it's a little longer than my usual board, which helps in itself. I did find the actual iron a tad heavy, more so than than the tefal steam generator iron that I usually use. I'm not sure about the smart connectivity though, to be honest, it seemed superfluous. It'll tell you when to descale the system, but beyond that, it's a bit of a gimmick. I do like the removable water tank - an improvement on Laurastar irons of old, though you still need to empty the system from an award bottom valve after use which is fiddly and takes time (and do make sure you let it all cool first, as you will burn yourself badly - I did. I did like also that the whole iron comes assembled with only a few small bits to add - which is good. I also like that it has a water filter built in - a nice touch though at £35 very expensive to replace. So... what's the verdict? This is a very good iron, but it's clearly aimed at people that iron a lot and have an ironing room. This is not made to be regularly moved, it's far too heavy (though it's nice it folds up nice and small). It's the Rolls Royce of irons, but it comes at a cost and I'm not sure if it'll be worth it for that many people... If however you iron a lot, or want the best, have a utility room where it could live, then yes, this is undoubtedly the best iron on the market - at least from what I've seen.

Top of the range combined iron and board
While the cost of this item may seem excessive, the results are spectacular and the machine itself is brilliant. Setting up does take time but the helpful videos on the Laurastar app are very useful. I found when ironing that the iron itself required very little pressure to work well so that sheets & duvet covers, which I used to hate ironing, could be done in a fraction of the time. The only problem I found was finding the correct water level. There is a max mark but it is quite difficult to see, but that is a minor quibble. The iron, which is part of the unit is easy to store away and the board comes with wheels to make moving around the house easy. It is therefore easy to transport. All in all this is a very superior product and worth the investment. Highly recommended.

Top shelf product at a top shelf price
I've actually put off writing this review for a little bit, because I wasn't sure what I wanted to say. So let's get this out of the way. The price tag on this is absolutely insane, and that for me was the initial sticking point. However, the reason that I ummed and aahed and eventually gave a five star review is because I cannot criticize the actual product itself. I, like an awful lot of people, do not like ironing and I find it both annoying and difficult to do well. But this product makes it so easy it's actually silly. I had absolutely no difficulty whatsoever in immediately ironing a perfect crease down the sides of my trouser legs. It does honestly seem to be to be the pinnacle of ironing technology. I do think that it might well be too much iron for the average home user and may well be more suited for business uses or those people who for some reason have enormous quantities of ironing to do, but if you're prepared to lay down this kind of cash for convenience, I can't deny that it is an absolutely top notch product.

Making ironing bearable.
Straight out of the box this is an impressive piece of kit. It's like something you'd see in a professional dry cleaners. It's very well built, and very heavy. You can download the app from the Google Play store (if on Android) and it's very impressive how it links to the iron. It gives you tips on ironing, tells you what temperature it's set at, how much water is left, and loads of other great features. I've never known anything like it before. It really has knocked my socks off and made ironing something I don't dread doing anymore. High quality and very much recommended.
