Sevylor Motor Mount

I have a Sevylor Fish Hunter HF 280 raft for years now and wanted a troll motor backing for some time. It's very hard to know what your buying, as in product unseen. This is one reason I shop Amazon, as I never had to ship any of my merchandise back. The Coleman Motor Mount fit perfect and was worth the price. I was going on Amazon website quite often looking for when they would stock this item. Then I received a notice from Amazon letting me know the motor mount was in stock and scooping it up quick.I did scroll through the reviews and found one customer who said it wasn't worth the money for the cheap pips and a piece of wood. I saw nothing cheap, the pipes are strong as the wood backing too, In fact you couldn't build the same motor mount for that price. Having fun trolling in our many Lakes.Thank you AMAZON.Claude R. As always Amazon was amazing in allowing for the return and refund, but to warn you ahead of time before considering purchasing this, please read the issues I ran into.On the extension rods, the image shows metal butterfly bolts that would make this product a whole lot better. Had this been metal, I would be certain that I could not have over-tightened.Second issue (and less significant) is that my Minn Kota motor did not have enough range to clamp the motor to mounting board. This was easily overcome by sliding in some cardboard to act as a shim, but if the board was just 1/4" thicker, it would be sufficient. One could say that this is an issue with the motor itself... but, I'm inclined to think that the manufacturer probably should have known what the clamping distance on a Minn Kota motor would require. (It's not like this is some weird, no-name, off-brand.)

If this costs you 80$, you are spending 70$ for convenience. The poles are cheap fragile metal, like you would see in an old car antenna but bigger, the fixtures are plastic, and the board is just that.. a very slightly curved/shaped piece of plywood.It works. I took it out with my Sevylor kayak and it does stay in place if your boat is inflated properly. This is helped out a TON if you have a solid floor to your boat. I used boards, but am going to make a folding floor panel so I can use it easily each time.I give it 3 stars because like I said, it does work. It is the type of thing that could break or bend (the metal) at any time though, and I definitely recommend you make your own if you have any capacity for that sort of crafting. It would take you one trip to home depot and about 10 dollars to do it. If there were any alternative for these boats I would recommend that, but there simply is not a better option.

Not sure why the price on this product is was over $70. If I knew the specs, I would have made my own. This is two flimsy pieces of metal and a square foot of wood with a couple small pieces of hardware. That being said, it works as advertised for my sevylor inflatable boat from 20 years ago and Minn Kota trolling motor.

Did well in the lake yesterday and today. I liked the telescoping feature. A little on the pricey side for me though.

Don't waste your money ! Nearly all the materials used to make this were solid, except for one of they critical parts - the slider clamps that allow you to adjust the length of the rods from the motor mount to the boat motor mount holes. The slider clamps are made of plastic and have a metal screw that tightens down against the metal rods. Anytime you have metal screws tightening against metal rods, and use plastic; the plastic is going to crack before it is tight enough. Both clamps broke as I tightened them. The other major defect with this product is the thickness of the motor mount board. I have a 55lb thrust electric motor and the clamps can't close down enough to secure the motor to the motor mount board. Another reviewer had the same comment. Could I have made this work - sure by changing the design, adding a new board, finding a metal slider, etc. But that is what Sevylor should have done to start with.

This is a great mount as it has the strengthening arms which go a 1/4 of the way up the craft making the mount rigid . It is well designed

Can NOT be used for a gas outboard motor. I put a 4HP motor on it and it couldn't even handle the weight of the motor. It should be good to handle a electric trolling motor.
