good basic rubber mallet
This is a good basic rubber mallet. the sticks are a little long, and fairly flexible, so if you are looking for something that is more solid look elsewhere. The rubber heads are kind of small, but they get the job done.

My son loved the sound these made.
First-year percussion band for my son and he is super forgetful. Since we didn't have a lot of guidance on what to buy we picked up a number of mallets just to experiment with. He really liked the sound that these made as they are a little more rubberlike than many of the hard mallets. Good price and they will probably last longer than he will forget them on the back of the band bus. I figure if he loses enough things on that school bus I'll finally get that umbrella he lost back at the start of the year.

The Goldilocks glockenspiel
I got my son this glockenspiel: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0197TVD6Y/ to practice for Orff, but the included mallets were a hard plastic that produced a clean, but very loud note. I had looked into quieter mallets and got this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002CD7C4A/ but it was too soft and inaudible. Eventually I got this one, and even though it was one of the cheapest I considered, it hit the Goldilocks mark or being just right. Nice mellow tone, easier to hear... but not from across the house.

Nice softer mallets for bells
We got these for my son who is playing the bells in elementary band. The ones he had were hard and created very piercing sounds. These ones really mellow it out. It makes the sound quieter and very warm sounding.

The rubber doesn’t hit the bells right
The sound from the rubber is weak and seems muffled, we were trying to replace our old plastic mallet and it doesn’t compare. It is well made but I’d avoid rubber next time and go for plastic for better sound quality on our xylophones.

Not as hard as others = better sound!
These are perfect for metal glockenspiels. The hard plastic ones make too harsh a sound, but these are perfect, especially if kids will be banging on them. They seem cheaply made but so far they've been fine.
