Essential Tagalog: Speak Tagalog with Confidence! (Tagalog Phrasebook & Dictionary) (Essential Phrasebook and Dictionary Series) Paperback – October 10, 2012

I purchased this book to aid in learning a second language. For learning Tagalog, I have the help of some native speakers and I had them look through the book to determine how helpful it would be for a beginner like myself. My friends agreed that this book is a great basis for the language.From my perspective, I found that the author explained the pronunciation of the language extremely well in the beginning of the book. I have been able to read and speak phrases from this book without wondering if my pronunciation was wrong. I feel that this book will be a great resource in conjunction with practice online and in person, and wonderful to keep around for reference even as I improve my fluency.

This is a useful little book for a person who is interested in being able to quickly learn some basic Tagalog, though it is light in its coverage of pronunciation. It includes commonly used phrases divided into chapters by topic as well as a short dictionary that translates some practical English words to Tagalog.

I just adopted an older child from the philippines and this book was a great way for me to have some phrases to speak to him in his language. I really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, as soon as he saw it he confiscated it to use with his friends!!! Now I'll have to order another one.

I have not gotten into this book much yet, but it looks like it will be good. I am sure that I will learn more from this book.

Some of the translations are not accurate and some words could have been translated in a simpler way that would be easier for the person using it. Letters are too small also.

Good price. Good size for traveling. Definitely has useful phrases. However, I agree with another reviewer that it should a have better description on how to pronounce ng which is not a stand alone letter combination found in English. I'd recommend this book.

This has been a fun resource to use. Everyone compliments me on my tagalog when using phrases from this book. It is very helpful!

This is a handy reference. By itself it seems a little awkward to use, but if used in conjunction with a spoken audio course (like the Pimsleur Language Program) it is very useful, as much of Tagalog must be heard so you can pronounce words correctly. I have found that in Tagalog two words that seems the same pronounced slightly different have wildly different meanings. Best to know how to pronounce the words before you open you mouth, else risk being incredibly rude and insulting.

Although I had to wait for some time before receiving this book, I have to say that I really love it. This book is so easy to read and follow, unlike other Tagalog books I have bought.
