Perfect for the kitchen and the tub
I have used the Black & Decker Scum buster for years. I like these little power scrubbers better because: 1. It's smaller and more portable than the Scum buster. 2. It performs the same as the Scum buster, so if I can get the same cleaning power in a small handheld device, I will pick that anytime. 3. The Scum buster uses those proprietary Ni-Cad cylindrical batteries. Those are a specialized battery that you have to buy at Sears or the hardware store and they are expensive. This power scrubber uses four AA batteries. We all have those around the house. Moreover, I use Sanyo eneloop rechargeable batteries which means I am never out of power. 4. What I really like is that this power scrubber is small, light and easy to use. You don't get tired using it. The huge Scum Buster eventually gets tiresome to use and it's awkward to handle. 5. B & D designed the Power Scrubber to spin fast and powerful enough to really scrub things, like pots and pans, tile, etc. But it does not spin so fast to where it would shoot water, cleanser, or whatever all over the place. It's speed is perfect for keeping the cleaning material in the pad and on the surface you are scrubbing. 6. This is perfect for its intended uses, scrubbing the sink, things in the sink and the shower/tub. I even used it on my tires! 7. Bonus Tip: I find it works quite well when applying medium pressure to the scrubber. It's powerful enough that when applying pressure it does not stall, it simply scrubs harder, which is what I want in a device like this. 8. And I like that it can stay submerged up to ten minutes (per the owner's manual). That means you can leave it in the sink with the water running without worrying about it shorting out. Bonus Tip: In fact, the owner's manual says that if water does get into the battery compartment you only have to stop using it and let it dry out over night. How cool is that, not having to worry about water damaging the unit. All in all a great device. It has saved me a lot of work in the kitchen.

Great for arthritic hands!
This thing has been a lifesaver for my arthritic hands. I got it because I was having such problems scrubbing things, like the stove top and the shower stall. I cook a lot, and that doesn't mean I take a pizza out of the freezer and throw it in the oven. I make the dough, I make the sauce, I cook the meats and veggies that have to be cooked. So the stove gets dirty. Every day. This helps to keep my hands from hurting so badly. It's not fast. I haven't actually clocked it, but I think it probably has about 30 rpm. I wish the rpm was about triple that, but it still gets the job done. The battery time lasts a lot longer than I thought it would, but hey, rechargeable batteries are kind of wimpy, so that's impressive. I also like the fact that it can be immersed completely! That means you can scrub the pots with it too and you don't have to worry about ruining it. The pads are easy to change out. I've made up additional pads with just regular scrubber pads. The non-scratch type of pads are essential. The brushes are nice for things like grouted lines or anything that won't do well with a flat scrubbing surface as provided by the pads. Get this thing for anyone you know with arthritic hands. Also anyone who is unable to do scrubbing without pain due to injury or lacks the dexterity.

Many Unconventional Uses (power in the toilet! power in the pool!)
For starters, I've never used the Power Scrubber for dishes/pots&pans, so I can't speak to its uses there. I can tell you that it does a great job on porous-looking bath tile (the kind that has little air-bubble holes... I don't get it either, but the shower looks nice), especially when you use the Black & Decker PKS-BB Bristle Brush for Power Scrubber . In addition, it's done a fine job on my car tires and rims. If you keep some rechargeable batteries around, like the Sanyo Eneloop 8 Pack AA NiMH Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries , you're good to go. But because of its submersible design, I bought it to help me clean the deep corners of my pool. Ours is a vinyl in-ground pool, and where the vinyl was pressed into the corners of the deep end, there are little wrinkles and ridges. We've got crape myrtles around the pool (not a good idea, but we bought the house this way), and often, the wrinkles collect petals, dirt, etc. The pool vacuum misses these spots, and even diving with a scrub sponge provides no help (because when I start to scrub, I just sorta' float away -- the kids love to watch this, and they know that when THAT many bubbles are coming out of Daddy's mouth, he's probably cussing). By the time the Power Scrubber arrived, I had a very clean pool, except for a small series of black-caked folds where the debris collects. The good news is that the Power Scrubber can handle a depth of 10', and that the dirt was flung out within seconds. The area is spotless. The bad thing is that it took such a small amount of time, that it was a bit of a letdown to get on a bathing suit and goggles, only to return less than 2 minutes later with the job completed. The unit hasn't taken on any water yet, but I pull the battery tray out anyway and let the Power Scrubber dry upright overnight. I also found that the scrubber was exactly what I needed to clean the toilet tank (reservoir). We're on well water, and when we bought our home, the water filters hadn't been changed in a while, so the toilet tanks had clay-enriched brown scum-goo all over the interiors. I drained the tank, donned rubber gloves, splashed some chlorine hither and yon, and let this scrubber wiggle and grind through all of the backstage workings of the toilets. Fan. Tass. Tick. No more staining water. The Power Scrubber does NOT have a blindingly fast rotation, but seems to work more on determination and diligence. I also understand that this pool-and-toilet-tank bit isn't what people are looking for when they're assessing the Power Scrubber's uses in the kitchen, but I thought it might help folks to realize that it's a nice scrubbing tool that is useful in many other locations for many other jobs.

Weak but effective for specific uses. So still a decent value.
I'll be honest here. It's got weak power, it does not have rotational speed. The sponges fall apart after hard use. The good, it scrubs well, for specific uses, it's great for when you don't want to put in elbow grease on some items. Here's an example, I wanted to use it to clean soap scum from bathroom tile. It's too small with that pad to do large areas. Too slow to really work it out, So bummer... BUT! I found out when cleaning pans and pots, it's great for when you have to work at rubbing some food off. Just some scouring powder and let it do it's thing with gentle pressure, it makes it easy to just work at cleaning smaller areas/items. I'm sure I'll get some more pads. But I think It is useful, and a decent value for the cheap price.

Works great, esp with buffing compound on the shower.
I think the people who complain have not figured out how to use this. I could not get the hard water stains off my shower. Then I put in some premium batterys and used some buffing compound and the water stains came right off. Now the shower is bright and shiny and looks new compared to it's old dull surface. The polish or wax also helps keep the shower clean. This is a great tool if you get the right cleaner for the job your doing. Allow the scrubber and your cleaning agent to get the job done for you. Of course it is not as powerful as an orbital buffer polisher, but those things are to big and to powerful for a lot of the little jobs around the house. They can not go in and clean out the tight spots like this one can. Our woodwork is dull and dirty, and some may consider to paint it. But with this scrubber along with some auto polish cleaner it cleans up nice and is a lot easer then have to paint it to get that fresh shine back again. This is a scrubber, but you can put a buffing cover on it and do polishing also. It is velcro so you can put the pad on a bit to the side and turn this into a orbital cleaning tool. I would like something a little bit bigger and more powerful, but for the price this one will get the job done. Of course if you need exercise do it the old fashion way and get a good workout.

I would recommend and will likely buy a second!
I would recommend and will likely buy a second! I was very pleased with my first use. So much so, I plan on buying a second (One Bath & One Kitchen) I bought the PKS160 Power Scrubber trying to replace a much older "ScumBuster" Model which I used for at least 15 years until the rechargeable battery compartment developed a water leak and the inside became a corroded mess. This new device was less expensive than a battery for the older model. I was hoping the brush attachments from my old "ScumBuster" model would fit the PKS160 Power Scrubber but they don't and that's okay with me. Although PKS160 Power Scrubber is promoted, and sized, primarily as a dish washing gadget, I bought it and successfully used it to clean the glass doors and tile in my shower! (We have terribly hard water which promotes ridiculous hard water marks and soap scum build). I had very high hopes for the PKS160 Power Scrubber and it didn't let me down. The battery compartment is far superior to that on my old model too. The 2 Heavy Duty scrubbers that came with the PKS160 Power Scrubber are about 2.25", maybe 2.5" so size wise it's probably better suited to cleaning pots and pans more so than showers BUT since the PKS160 is very light weight, it's worked way better than hand scrubbing my glass and shower tile! It had plenty of power** under added/heavy hand pressure too. **Keep in mind that since it uses 4-AA batteries, the scrubber rotation speed and overall strength is likely relative to the remaining battery strength. It came with 4-AA batteries but I installed 4 new popular brand Lithium (non-rechargeable) batteries instead. (I've lost too many things to leaky Alkaline batteries recently) With really fresh and good batteries at a the start I was able to Power Scrub all 3 tile walls, the floor and both glass doors of a rather large shower without noticing a loss of power. It appears there is lots of power remaining too. I'd say that more than enough power to clean a large shower equates to A WHOLE LOT of pots, pans and dishes for those interested in that use. And since it did so well cleaning my shower, I imagine it would kick buzz cleaning my roasting pans and glass stove top! I also purchased additional (aftermarket) scrubber pads and scrub brush attachments (I will review separately) so I've decided that until I get another scrubber unit for the kitchen I will designate one set for shower cleaning and a few for the kitchen. At least for me, gadgets that work can make cleaning less mundane. This fits the bill.

Tuff enuf!
This power scrubber is a dynamic tool that is quite effective and fun to use. Unlike a similar item, this tool is vigorous and it seems to hold a charge. I have used this item in the kitchen, garage and bathroom ( although I asvise a different one in each room to avoid contamination). It seems impervious to water. I wish I had purchased the Black and Decker version first as I am now totally disappointed in the similar item. Although I love this tool, I wish the manufacture made the scrub pads (as shown), with a bit more friction, but over all this little tool is tuff enuff for most scrubbing jobs and adds a bit of fun to cleaning as well. A note of caution! This tool is contagious~ Update: 11/01/15 While I was sincere in my review, this instrument did not live up to my expectations. It did perform exactly as I initially stated but soon after I wrote the review it just quit. I changed the batteries, had my husband check it out thoroughly, but it was completely useless and I have since disposed of it. I would not advise consumers to purchase one of these if they desire value or longevity.

Bigger than the picture leads you to believe, slow but powerful. Blue pads aren't very tough.
Much larger than it looks online. It seems to turn a little slow, but it is powerful and doesn't stop working from putting pressure on it. That tells me that it has a well made motor which is unusual for a Chinese made product. 4 stars for the slower action. I bought mine, with an optional additional bristle brush, for the laundry. I've used it with the scrubber pads to clean my stainless steel kitchen sink and it worked fine. The scrubber pads, once attached to the velcro like surface pull apart if you try to remove them, so don't take off the pads unless they are worn out, instead take off the whole head, which is easy to remove by just pulling on the plastic under the pad. The blue pads don't seem to have alot of scrubbing power and they pull apart easily. There are some other choices on Amazon that you might want to try. To insert batteries, pull straight out on the wire "hanger" on the base. It comes with 4 Chinese made batteries, however, I recommend Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries (it takes 4 AA), because they won't ever leak and ruin your scrubber, they are way more powerful, they last for what seems like forever, and for ones in storage, they have a 25-30 year storage life (stock up-they won't go bad-and then you are prepared when you need them for your scrubber or flashlights or etc...). They are too powerful for some things, but work just fine with this scrubber. Use the cheaper batteries for things that require less power, or that won't work with the very powerful lithium batteries.
