A most enjoyable read.
I have just read The Hickory Stick and The Ashen Rung back to back.A most enjoyable read. The chronicled events move at a good pace making both books 'page turners'.Considering that 60% of the story is based on a real person's life and his diaried events makes the storyline almost beyond belief.Well worth purchasing. If you are familiar with the Norfolk area, even more so.Enjoy.

Sunday afternoon escape
I really enjoyed this story and once I started reading, read through to the end. But having said that it was not light weight. The mix of narrative and description was well balanced and although based on the writings of Barnaby Madden the author has merged life with fantasy in such a way that they became one. The description of North Norfolk was good and I am sure many of the pubs remain today.I am looking forward to reading the second instalment and wonder if Belinda may re-appear...
