The Certified Software Quality Engineer Handbook Har/Cdr Edition

This is a well-written encyclopedia of software engineering best practices. Linda Westfall has done an amazingly good job of presenting the broad field of software engineering practices clearly and concisely. In a subject this vast, packed into about 600 pages, you might expect to see fine print and terse explanations. Not so. The font size and white space are generous and there is typically one illustration per two pages. The writing quality is excellent - it is engaging and informative, not dull, dry or dummied-down. With its good balance of readability and information, this book is a great reference for not just software quality engineers but also for managers, software developers, technicians and students.I am a software developer, not a quality engineer, and I am mid-point in studying toward a Master of Software Engineering degree. This book will be valuable to me as a resource for discussing software engineering methodology with the engineers and managers I work with. One of my fellow engineers, a quality engineer, successfully used this book and its practice exams to prepare for the Certified Software Quality Engineer test offered by American Society for Quality.As I wrote this review I pulled down and considered two books from my shelf: Software Engineering 8 by Ian Sommerville, and Software Quality Engineering by Jeff Tian. Those were both textbooks in my Software Engineering graduate curriculum. If I were to thin out my bookshelf I would discard those two books and keep Linda Westfall's.I highly recommend Linda Westfall's The Certified Quality Engineer Handbook.

Passed my ASQ certification using this book. ( I also been in the Software QA role for many years) The tests were included on the disc were very similar to the actual exam (taken in Jun 2016).

This is a two part review:The first part is about the book as a physical item. The edition sold was a pirated copy from India marked "not for sale in the USA". When I was in graduate school it was common to see such books in the hands of foreign students. The text was a word for word copy printed in books with very thin paper with sloppily made covers. But since the text was word for word, they were very usable for a course or two. But not for reference. I do not think that the book I have will hold up to extended use. (I bought from: Maple_Leaf_Books.)Second part is the book itself, the part that Ms. Westfall is responsible for. I have been to one of her live training and some video recorded ones, and the book follows her lecture material. As a beginning Software QA person for a government agency that is responsible for a large number of very visible projects, this has been the starting point for my training, and I recommend it. It has allowed me to come up to speed in a sort time.

I have to say this book contains all you need to pass the CSQE exam. It is very detailed and explanatory. I used this book only to prepare for my exam and I passed...Yah!!!I did not have a clue about only one question in the exa related to CMMI. All in all, I would recommend this book. I am definetely keep this in my book collection for future referenceHowever, Its worth mentioning that I have been working as a Test Engineer for 7 yrs. Either ways, it covers all the basics needed to pass....I strongly recommend it

I've had this book before as I received it from the author, Linda Westfall. An excellent book and a must for every SQE's library.

The detailed coverage is all you could ask for.The sample tests with answers are very, very helpful and may be the best part of all.

Very Informative Book and broadens one knowledge of the s/w industry and practice and howwe all can do much better

This book is well organized and really helped prepare for the CSQE examination and as a great reference during the test.
