Appalachian music
I already had the 1955 edition and find the words & music to many of the old "Mountain" songs as well as some Elizabethan tunes is a real bonus for this autobiography. Ordered it for a dear friend who is a fan of dulcimer music. The book was delivered timely.

Extremely enjoyable
Great picture of what it was like in her family, reminded this reader of her own family traditions. Music notations were excellent.

It's very exciting to do a family tree and find someone that has become celebrity. I bought this for my mother. The Ritchie family is her mothers lineage.

wonderful journey
Jean is the writer here. No ghost writers for her.she is fabulous and the book takes you on a journey through her life. You get caught up in the book in the same way as fiction and then remember it is mainly fact. Important historically as it gives a real glimpse of life in early 20th century onwards. I was dissapointed in the lack of information about her dulcimer playing and would have loved her to have described how she came to take up the instrument and how she progressed with it. But it is only mentioned extremely briefly. I realise that this is not "wrong" Why should she mention it in detail? But I would have loved it if she had. WE can see from her book that life was happy for her even in relative poverty. I love Jean Ritchie and hope she lives to be 110. Great book
