Extendable design is exceedingly useful -- one of those things you think is unnecessary until you actually use it. It's wind/water/cold proof and privides a jet of high temp blue flame on the first click, every time. Even in sub zero temps. Use refined butane and it will never let you down. I will never be without one trekking/camping. Highly recommend.

I'll start with the safety mechanism, just the worst I've seen. It takes me 10 seconds to defeat it. And when I do, I need to do it again 2 more times since it doesn't start the torch. Then there's the feel, it's all very cheap plastic The extended torch is nice and when it lights up, it works fine. Other than that, far from the holly grail promised in the reviews. Edit a year in: alright, added 2 stars. Got used to the safety, I get why it’s there. Still feel it’s flimsy got the price.

PLOEASE SEE REVISION ON THE BOTTOM first and foremost, if you are using any butane operated lighters it is important to remember they require the gas to flow first before the spark is engaged. so to whom ever had any issues with the lighter not sparking on first and second attempts like i had, try pushing button half way until the gas sounds like it it coming out, then push fully to engage the ignition mechanism. very well made, strong, love the little indicator at the bottom and the grip which stops it from slipping REVISION: the product is faulty, it melted / deformed due to use. please see pictures. the spark rod melted and deformed to move away from the butane flow so it does not light up in any way! I bought two of these and both had the same issue! stay away!!!!

This lighter was highly recommended by by a backpacking YouTube channel titled Paul Messner which I respect. I also have several other Soto products including Amicus and Windburner stoves and the Soto Thermostack Combo Cook Set and have come to respect the build quality and design of Soto products. My favorite stove for windy conditions when weight isn’t an issue is the MSR Windburner and it doesn’t come with an igniter. Recently I was having a problem lighting my Windburner because the wind was blowing at approximately 25-30 mph and kept blowing out my Bic lighter. I got the stove lit, but it was sort of a hassle so I decided to get the Soto Pocket Torch XT which has proven to be much more wind resistant than the Bic lighter and the extension keeps my fingers out of the stove burner. I also got the Soto Fill Adaptor 00-TRG which works like a charm filling up the lighter from standard Iso Butane canisters which I always have with me anyway to use with my stoves. The stove canisters are about 20% propane and 80% butane and work fine with this lighter down to at least 20 degrees Fahrenheit which is lower than with straight butane fuel. To sum up I have had no problems with this lighter, it is well suited to light backpacking stoves and I attribute the lower reviews to operator error or defective fuel.

What can I say. It's pretty simple to use. You have to buy an adapter to fill up the chamber though. Other than having to buy a separate part to fill it up, it's quite a simple refill and I haven't had any issues with leakage. The fuel capacity is pretty good too. I haven't had to refill it in the last year. Being a torch, it is quite resistant to wind and doesn't blow out easily. It looks simple and weighs about nothing. If you are a backpacker that counts every gram, it might be on the heavier side for lighters, but if you are just looking for a powerful lighter/torch this is great.

Great lighter for anything close to sea level (desert etc.) As long as you depress the button partially for a moment before igniting to allow the gas to begin flowing, the lighter ignites every time. The extendable feature allows you to light things you would normally need a big BBQ lighter to ignite. I went to the mountains this weekend and attempted to light a lantern with this lighter and it would not ignite. I read on the back that the lighter "may not ignite in cold weather or above 5,000 feet" I love this lighter for around the house and desert camping, but the lighter is not functional at elevation or cold temperatures. I will continue to use this lighter, but will find another option for mountain camping. ***UPDATE*** I ended up taking apart the lighter and "tweaking" it like I did with cheap BIC lighters when I was a kid and it now works great at altitudes. The only downside of this modification is that the flame stays on for a second after you release the button. An acceptable trade off for a reliable lighter. Tweaking the lighter involves taking it apart, pulling off the flame adjustment knob, rotating it by hand a 1/4 to 1/2 a of a turn and then placing the knob back on, giving it a boost in the supplied butane pressure. Do this at your own risk : )

This is the perfect camp & backpacking lighter, small compact, refillable. our primary use is starting various types of camp stoves (need reach distance) and camp fire making to fusing paracord. I've purchased several for my kids in scouting and small gifts to their friends. Been a year now with extensive camping use at high altitude and still kicking great. Key features I have not found in one compact pocketable package, as a shopping checklist that make this 5 star: Extendible nozzle to be able to reach into any stove or remote stove lighting capability to not burn your / your kids hands (distance measured from starting button to flame). Starter safety switch so it won't light by an accidental button push in your pocket. Window to see butane level and quickly inspect if it has fuel (if there's no window, then you have to fill it to be safe so you have fuel when on a campout - brought lighter, but it was out of fuel...), adjustable burn that all fits in a pocket or mini access pouch in backpack. the only time we've had a problem in one of six, seemed to be getting soot in the nozzle head, chance to test customer service, which was AWESOME, we debugged some things and once confirmed issue, they replaced the defective unit! I have yet to find anything like it, hope is continues to be available. IMHO I would ignore review that it never lit, because that great child safety switch is the likely cause, I've personally seen my kid give it to another to use and the feedback was it didn't work, then he pushed in the safety then light (a single step) and it lit up right away. If anything MFG should make more visible for those used to traditional non-safety switch lighters, perhaps by making the safety switch two color, please don't remove the safety feature.

Unmittelbar nach Erhalt sollte man nachschauen, ob der Regler auf Maximum steht und den erst einmal zurückdrehen. (Stellt man den Regler vor der ersten Inbetriebnahme nicht zurück, wird man von einer ziemlich großen und langen Jetflamme überrascht, die ziemlich lange nachbrennen kann, da eben noch so viel Restgas nachströmt, d.h., obwohl man schon vom Knopf gegangen ist. Dieser Effekt sollte verschwinden, wenn man den Regler zurückdreht, wenn nicht, ist das Feuerzeug defekt.) Das Feuerzeug wird leer, d.h. ohne Gas, geliefert, d.h. man muss es erst einmal nachfüllen. Man sollte ein so hochwertiges Feuerzeug denke ich mit möglichst hochwertigem Feuerzeuggas nachfüllen, ich kann da allerdings keine Empfehlung abgeben, ich hab einfach eines aus der Trafik gekauft, das angeblich hochrein sei. Man kann das Feuerzeug ja auch einfach in die Trafik mitnehmen und nach einem hochwertigen Gas für Jetfeuerzeuge fragen, und fragen, ob die Gasdose vom Einfüllstutzen her zu diesem Feuerzeug passt, falls nicht kann man ggf. auch gleich einen entsprechenden Adapter dazu kaufen. Vor dem Nachfüllen sollte man glaube ich kurz die Gasdose schütteln, danach das Feuerzeug und die Gasflasche auf den Kopf stellen und in dieser Position den Einfüllstützen, sozusagen von oben herab bzw. mit der Schwerkraft, kurz in das Ventil auf der Unterseite des Feuerzeugs drücken (so ca. ein oder zwei Sekunden lang). Dann sollte man sehen, dass in der Tankanzeige ein Flüssigkeitspegel erkennbar ist. (Falls das Gas nicht hineingehen will und links und rechts zischend herausströmt, braucht man einen Adapter, bei meiner Nachfülldose ging es aber perfekt mit dem aufgesetzten Standardkopf.) Das Feuerzeug funktioniert zuverlässig, zündet allerdings meist meist nicht beim ersten Mal. Das ist, soweit ich das mitbekommen habe, teilweise temperaturabhängig. Bei niedrigen Temperaturen sollte man es vor Gebrauch glaube ich schütteln (das steht allerdings nicht in der Betriebsanleitung, sondern ist nur mein persönlicher Rat) und wenn es dann nicht gleich zündet, einfach den Regler etwas höher stellen. Sehr toll ist die weit ausziehbare Teleskopstange, damit erreicht man Kerzen usw. optimal, z. Bsp. wenn man am Friedhof eine Kerze anzünden will, die sich in einem höheren Behälter befindet (d.h. Behälter höher als die Kerze). Bzw. einfach für alles, was nicht so leicht erreichbar ist. Die Stange ist fast gleich lang wie das Feuerzeug, d.h. man kann sie fast so lang ausziehen, wie das Feuerzeug lang ist. Die Flamme ist ziemlich windsicher, bei stärkerem Wind muss man halt ggf. den Regler höherdrehen. Die Kindersicherung ist meiner Meinung nach gut und völlig ausreichend. Man sollte die Kindersicherung meiner Meinung nach NICHT entfernen, wie das ein anderer Rezensent offenbar getan hat, denn die Kindersicherung hat einen guten Grund, nämlich zu verhindern, dass das Feuerzeug unabsichtlich "losgeht", bei einer 1.300 Grad heissen Flamme macht das denke ich Sinn (...). Alles in allem denke ich, dass das ein japanisches Spitzenprodukt ist, das man empfehlen kann. Falls ich doch noch negative Erfahrungen mache bzw. irgendwelche negativen Punkte am Feuerzeug finde, werde ich meine Rezension hier entsprechend modifizieren.

Lo vi en videos de campamento de gente de Japón. Muy buena opción. Tiene un mecanismo de seguridad para que los niños no puedan operarlo. Tengo más de soplete, pero el único extensible.

Je suis satisfait de ce produit. Je l’utilise en outdoor ou bien chez moi pour allumer le BBQ. Son embout télescopique permet d’allumer un feu en sécurité. Il est rechargeable. Je l’ai depuis plusieurs mois. Je le recommande.
