A modern and detailed text on TRIZ for technologist and beyond
I liked TRIZ for Engineers. As a practicing engineer for 20 years, and as a student of TRIZ for five years, I have read a wide range of text on classical TRIZ and higher levels of TRIZ approaches used in inventive problem solving. The book presents real engineering problems in short form scenarios and through case studies that include detailed notes on how to use a range of TRIZ tools to generate solutions. The example problems are engineering based, but less industrial focused, so the examples have a wide application to the engineering market and technologist new to the basic TRIZ concepts. The book offers problem solving maps and algorithms that illustrate how the TRIZ tools presented in the chapters can combine to form larger algorithms. The solution maps present through out the chapters flow through the early phases of developing a problem statement, identifying which TRIZ tools fit the problem scenario and onward to developing and applying solutions. The book also offers color figures and tables, which compliment the text as it illustrates how TRIZ is used to model systems and analyze functions. Thematic cartoons are included, as the author notes to bring some levity to the educational process. In my opinion, the cartoons present a physical contradiction as a reader, as they both add and distract from the text and the more formal diagrams and figures. The author emphasizes that TRIZ is a set of tools, which can offer more than one solution to a problem and that all solutions have some level of merit based on the users needs. This perspective is well supported in the book's classical TRIZ modeling examples. The later chapters include examples of the Traditional TRIZ 76 Standard Solutions, Substance-Field modeling, and ARIZ, which adds clarity to modeling problems with higher-level TRIZ tools. These advanced concepts discussions are supported with case study based examples. The book offers illustrations of blank worksheets that students can use as a reference to help analyze and execute the book's algorithms while problem solving. There are also chapters describing how the TRIZ concepts can be used to analyzing trends and inventing with TRIZ beyond the basic problem solving. The best part of the book from my perspective is the text-based descriptions of creating a functional analysis model and developing solutions through trimming and substitution of the functional models. I complement Karen Gadd on her efforts to bring TRIZ to engineers, and will recommend the book to TRIZ novices and more experienced inventive problem solvers.

Excellent TRIZ learning for APPLYING book.
Excellent material to learn TRIZ thinking to actually APPLY IT in real situations. This book presents TRIZ in a very usable form with well thought-out balance of text, graphics and cartoons that provide depth of explanation (text) together with the summarizing and humorous power of the visuals that make the material easy to remember and understand nonverbally.Carefully selected examples illustrate the TRIZ tools in action making it easier to link to your own invention or innovation needs.Start applying as you go with your reading, revisit as your experience with TRIZ increases and your invention/innovation skills will expand.

In depth explanation of TRIZ, but repetitive, wordy, redundant, and repetitive. Trimming would improve this book tremendously.
I recently learned about TRIZ and purchased this book to develop a better understanding of the subject. While the book is sufficiently in depth, it is a torturous read. It is wordy, repetitive, and somewhat disorganized. More space is dedicated to describing (and justifying) what the book will be explaining than in the actual explanation. The same exact ideas, often word for word, are presented over, and over, and over, and... However, the real world examples of TRIZ application are most helpful, so much so I wish there were more of them, that each one presented was carried through to conclusion, and that the process was described in even greater detail. I learn more from seeing how something is done than by reading about how it should be done. The subject matter is interesting and I would have like to have learned how to apply TRIZ in real life (my ideal outcome), but I don't feel like this book alone has prepared me to do so. One last word of warning. Many of the cartoons and diagrams are not legible reading this on Kindle.

A fun way to learn and apply TRIZ!
This book makes TRIZ as fun as it should be, with tools enhanced by colorful graphics and humor!

Very easy to read!
I suggest to use this book as part of the basic package to start learning TRIZ. The cartoons make you smile, the writing style is like talking to someone, which makes it easy to read.

Get to the point already...
This book cannot get to the point. After 100 pages it is still cheerleading for TRIZ rather than actually explaining what it is (God forbid the author actually just LIST the mythical 40 principles that have been alluded to continually page after page...). I already bought the book and read 100 pages. I'm already on board. I don't need convincing how great TRIZ is. Can you just get to the point already?

best book to start learning TRIZ
Smart and easy book to start understanding the powers and possibilities from TRIZ. I would recommended to anyone that would like to challenge current technology

Repetitive
The book is overly redundant. The author just tells you how wonderful Triz is and about how wonderful the original inventor of it was. Over and over and over...

Good but could do with a refresh
TRIZ is a funny thing and the understanding of it is really the understanding of your own assumptions / constraints. I like the book and the structured approach it takes. The analogies are helpful and tiresome in equal measure, mainly due to the huge number of them that are used. I work in patenting and TRIZ has contributed, albeit in a small way to a few patented ideas in a mature industry. The book is a very good reference, but the training courses helped most for me personally

An approach you won't be able to ignore once you've learned it :-)
One of those books where you pick up "tricks" that immediately get stuck in your head and you find yourself using over and over.It is a hefty pill, with IMHO a bit too much 'TRIZ is the only best', but you can open any chapter and pick what you need. It does mean a fair amount of 'repeat' but just skim through that.

This is the one to buy !
You will not get such a simple and clever application of Triz from any other book. Very, very practical book for Engineers who really want to use it, or even to test the value of Triz when applied correctly. Unfortunately, I have seen other books from other authors that do Triz an injustice, by under or over cooking it. If this is your experience too, then give yourself a second chance with Triz applied correctly with this book by the author who simplified the application of Triz successfully, and has tremendous practical experience in applying it. Standard application of Triz also covered in the book for comparison. Full of amusing and informative cartoons for easy reading. Not necessary but is more "ideal".

A very useful introduction to TRIZ.
I read this ahead of attending a TRIZ course developed by the author. The book is a good introduction, but I think it would be difficult to begin applying TRIZ without also attending the course. TRIZ is a toolkit and this is a very useful introduction to the tools, due to the toolkit nature of TRIZ, it is difficult to put a prescriptive method together to apply the tools. Consequently while there are a lot of examples in the book it does jump around a little as it introduces the tools.

At the start sounds like a solution for all problems
Really did not get on well with this book. At the start sounds like a solution for all problems, in the end leaves you with little.
