Good starter to chew on
I found the info to be pretty general but good, and some useful steps to take if you’re not sure how to get started.

zzzzzzz.....
One of the worst books I have ever read. I’m only reading because it’s on our assigned list for promotional exam. I’m even on adderall and I had the hardest time getting thru this book for a lot of reasons, including:• boring• dry• repetitive• too many bullet points• made me want to pull what little hair I have out• did I mention boring? So if you have to read it, good luck. If you don’t, I would highly recommend the Bible, Calvin & Hobbs or Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Happy reading!

For my work
This book was for work (HR) and the P.D. said the books worked out well for what they needed. It will become part of our library for employees.

Don't worry: You'll forget you ever read it after the test
Make sure you schedule your study time out to read this in chunks throughout the year. I'm assuming, of course, you're buying this because your political subdivision's manager believes that ICMA is the be-all end-all of knowledge about supervision. There's no other reason to read this dry material. Just get through it and take notes. You know they're going to grab some useless nonsense out of this book on your promotional exam.

ok?
Decent book , i have read better leadership books. but this one will do for basics. Too much philosophic for me.

Buy the test preparation PDF instead
Self-licking ice cream cone. Book exists solely to promote it's own, nuanced, idea of what leadership is. I'll sum up all 311 pages for you, be nice to people and they'll work harder. Worthless. Doubt the competence of whoever is making you read this. You can also google "Wish It, Want It, Do It" by Brian Griffin (Family Guy). Same concept here, explained in terms of leadership.

Super boring...
If you have narcolepsy or if you need Adderall to get thru the day, stay away from this book. I had to buy it for work (our promotions test is based off of it) and I now realize I will probably never get promoted. This book is great however, for putting your children to bed. Guaranteed they don't make it past the first 2 pages.
