Stood up to a lot of usage
I purchased this transmitter two years ago, and it is still working! Though it is not in the best of condition after being thrown in bags, around my car, and used on long trips, it is still fully functional. The plug fits well through any case (though I never used Otter style to test), and starts working as soon as it is plugged in. There are a few settings for boosting sound/bass, which are huge bonus. The only reason I'm not using it now is because I upgraded my phone and stereo. This is certainly a great FM transmitter!

Great product for 1/2 the retail price
I have used this type of belkin in the past but it finally wore out after 2 years of daily use. (The cord started to pull away from the transmitter, due to me not being careful with it). I tried another product last year but it did not work at all. Now that I got an iphone 4s I wanted to use it again in my car so I started a search for another belkin. I was nicely suprised that amazon was much cheaper than ebay and walmart! My belkin came on time in the original box and works great! I highly recommend this product!

Works as advertised but limited
I'm a newbie to the iPod and wanted to use my new toy in my old car so this seemed a good fit. Reading the reviews it seems like most of the issues were around static and interference. Its for a car so I wasn't looking for high fidelity so I got it. Having used the transmitter driving around the suburban Boston area (128 & 495 for the locals) the music will fade occasionally and get staticy like a NH radio station I sometimes listen to (25-50 miles away). Tolerable but barely.I did some online research on this and it seems the basic problem is that this transmitter uses the docking connector. As a result, the iPod thinks its been docked in a playback device and what you get is the line-out signal - no amplification, no volume control. This is good if your docked in a powered speaker system at home. Its bad if your pushing that signal out as a radio transmission. The result is that you have to turn your car radio almost all the way up to amplify the tiny line-out signal and you get all the static and distortion that goes with turning a car radio all the way up. You can not control the volume through the iPod (I've tried with a classic and a touch 4th gen). From the online discussions, disabling the volume control on a docked iPod is a recent "feature" added to the iPod's software. Perhaps future updates to the iPod will re-enable the volume control when connected. In the meantime, I would not recommend any transmitter that connects to the docking connector. You might be better off with one of the "universal" transmitters that connects through the headphone jack which will leave the iPod volume control enabled.

Excellent value!
My ex-fiancee bought this for me as a Valentine's Day gift over 4 years ago. Obviously, he needed help in the romance department, but I use this little device All. The. Time. And it lasted over 4 years. Pretty impressive! Then it just completely died on me the other day. Drat! Well, it still charged, but I couldn't listen to my music or other audios. And I use it A LOT. I have a lot of business training audios from high-priced business courses on my iPhone that I listen to while driving. I have a 2002 Civic, so it doesn't have an aux jack.I ran to Walmart the other day and picked up a different one, not realizing it plugged into the headphone jack, which means it didn't charge the phone. And iPhones lose their charge fast. So I took it back and bought this model again. I love that it charges my phone as I listen! There are a lot of other reviews with complaints about the auto-tune feature and the static and interference. I tune mine to one specific, empty station that works in my area and leave it there. There IS periodic interference, depending what area I'm going through. But that is not the fault of the tuner. It's simply the nature of using this technology to listen to my music this way.Until I can get a newer car with an aux jack, I'm stuck using this technology. But it's a great little device. Once plugged in, I can easily listen to my audios and the radio volume knobs override the iPhone volume, so I can turn it up as loud as I need. And it lasted a long time. Without it, I'd be stuck listening to the radio (I HATE all of the commercials) or just CDs. And most of my music/audios are MP3s on my iPhone, so that's a no go.So if you have an older car and want to be able to listen to your music/audios on your iPhone/iPod, this is a great little device! I ordered this early Wednesday morning and it arrived Friday afternoon. Thank you Amazon for getting it to me so fast!
