Are the ingredients safe? I hesitate to get this for my granddaughter because it is manufactured in China.

We used the lip balm & we didn't have any issues with ingredients. We had bought cheap toy lipgloss in past that I thought made lips tingly and I tossed, but this didn't. However, this kit didn't work really well (and we own most of the mc2 kits). The "flavoring" doesn't really add much, and my daughter was disappointed there was little color. I really don't highly recommend it.

How "girly" is this product? My son loves science/kit stuff and is always asking to use my chapstick.

It really seems more for girls although The chapstick tubes come in varying colors. Some are unisex others look more girly. The chapstick itself is always clear. Even the one we added sparkle to is clear.
