May be the best hobbyist/starter camera available
I used this camera to record church services before upgrading to a Sony FS7, and it did a fine job. I don't personally think there's another camera in this price range with this massive feature set with dual XLR inputs, selectable phantom/mic/line levels on inputs, good zoom ability, focus peaking, dual recording, 60p UHD and even 30p DCI, and really smooth motion stabilization. In fact, I use this as a secondary HD camera still. For the cons: The low light performance is not good, so I don't recommend it for that. It's great for outdoor shots and slow mo though. I used it indoors, partially lit, and the proper exposure required a 27 db gain even though this lens has an f1.8 aperture. I recommend setting the max gain level to around 12 db, 9 db if you can, to limit noise. The lens is not parafocal, not interchangable, and the best recording format is H.264 with a decent bitrate depending on which resolution you shoot in. The FHD 24p H.264 offers the best picture with intraframe at 200Mbps. I would typically shoot at 24p 4K UHD to reframe, and that bitrate is 100Mbps, with no intraframe, so the video is definitely not as clean. It's not bad though, can be cleaned up pretty nicely with noise reducers like Red Giant's denoiser if you have 8 hours to wait for post processing.

BAD FOR LOW LIGHT CONDITIONS
i was so exited for this camera cuase i heard a lot of good things about it and sure looks so good in pcitures and in person, video quality isn't bad but the problem here with this camera is that it has a small sensor and sucks for low light conditions,so much noise and i cant tolerate that for this camera price so i had to returned it and got refound i wish it didnt suck for shooting at night or low light PLEASE DO A RESEARCH BEFORE PURCHASING IT

Amazing zoom, clarity and stability!
I love this video camera. It was more than I wanted to spend, but there isn’t much between the $300 camcorders and this one. I was not happy with the video quality of my Sony camcorder and I feel I wasted the 300 some odd dollars. I took a chance on the HC-X1000 and am so glad I did. The 4K video is truly 4K quality. The stabilization is good for me as I have a natural shake and have to freehand most of the type of shooting I do.The camera is complex and way more than I needed. I have a lot to learn on it, but even starting out as a point and shoot, the videos surpass all my expectations. This didn’t take my YouTube videos to the next level, it made them soar to near-professional quality with the only limitations being my own skills. If you are going on a trip of a lifetime, like say an African safari where you need to zoom in on moving wildlife, do not hesitate to buy this camera. You won’t be sorry. It is worth the time to get past the learning curve to go beyond point and shoot, which is what I am working on now.

Mis advertised.
Camera is nice. But it doesn't have the live output streaming like the seller said it did. Returned it and got a different one.

Over all a great camera
My son and I run a couple YouTube channels. We started with a canon t5i dslr, and after considering an upgrade to 4K, we decided the cost of the Panasonic HC-x1000 was worth the risk. So we bought it. After a couple weeks of use we realized it’s not a very user friendly camera in regards to WiFi and such, (I had a bit of a problem setting it up). Another problem is it’s inability to record in low light, other then that, this camera has become our primary. We love that we don’t have to do a lot of post work on green screening. It seems to love the green screen. It’s light weight, and compact frame makes it easy to take with you, and looks professional enough. Another feature we love is the two xlr audio import jacks, which honestly I’ve only used on of, and the fact that you can record simultaneously on two SD cards. So far we love this camera as a beginners mid to semi professional quality. It’s ability to shoot 4K at this price makes it a must have for anyone looking to start out in the industry, or just a weekend videographer.

NOT quite what I was HOPING for....
First of all, I have been using Panasonic video cameras in some professional capacity for over 15 years. I absolutely LOVE them. This is the first offering from Panasonic I have been truly disappointed in. There are two aspects I look for in any camera which are most important: image quality and versatility. This camera has a small image sensor and while the image quality isn't poor, it's nothing to write home about (what's the use of popping for 4k @ 60fps if the image is already limited at the image sensor, huh?) Doesn't make any sense. I guess it all depends on what your standards are and what you are accustomed to. For those who don't know better or have a reference of comparison, it probably doesn't make a difference: you are bound to be thrilled by the image this camera creates. For the rest of us...all I can say is the output from a GH5 at HALF the price at only 4K 30p blows it away with a very noticeable difference. As far as versatility...I found I was really spoiled by the semi-pro features of my old HCM-150. WTH, NO waveform monitor on this camera? The histogram is a JOKE and there are bare minimum control options for fine tuning the image output. It really feels like they tore apart a cheapie 4K consumer palm-cam and inserted the components into a bigger body housing. Boo, HISS Panasonic. You're BETTER than that! Look, videographers! 4K @ 60 fps...shiney, pretty! YAWN!The build feels solid enough altho there was a constant nagging feeling in my gut because I KNOW it is high-impact resistant PLASTIC. Once again, my older HCM's spoiled me at about the same price point...approx $3000 for a solid MAGNESIUM body made in JAPAN is now the same price for an EXTRUDED PLASTIC housing made in China? E tu, Panasonic...say it isn't so?After two weeks I returned this camera for a full refund. I'll wait for the new AG DVX200 which is due out any week now. If you love Panasonic and are serious about the quality of your video, perhaps you should consider doing the same.
