The book was very good quality though
I had to buy this book for my theories on public organizations so I don't really care for the content. The book was very good quality though.

This is one of my top shelf books with chapters tabbed..
Easy to read and real must to have in order to quote from and ensure you get your ideas across using the foundations that have been set. We are living in world that is turning on a dime. I was the one of the first National Guard Aviators that had a Cell phone, and took it to the field. When the communications when down, and the Division commander needed to talk to the CORPS commander, the CS came to me and said Jay need your help. and our German officer who had just arrived and was put in the field needed to check on his wife back home we linked him up right there in Area 75. North Ft Hood. We have come along way since 1990. Our kids look at rotary phone and ask where are the buttons? This book takes you through the progression of what you need to know and where it can be used.

Worst textbook ever
This is, by a wide margin, the dullest and most incomprehensible academic book I have ever read. It was required reading for the doctorate program I am in. The authors seem to have an uncanny skill for taking simple ideas and explaining them in a way that is unintelligible. They use archaic and obscure words that need to be looked up and long-winded and convoluted paragraphs that need to be read multiple times to understand. Most of the references are outdated and obsolete. I cannot wait to be finished with this book. This book represents everything that is wrong with academic writing. Academic authors should write to be understood especially when so many of their readers are students.

Become a (sorta)instant (sorta)expert on organizations!
Become a (sorta)instant (sorta)expert on organizations! In one book!I came to this text with very little organizational theory background but this text really shored up that front of things. It's written concisely, if you have trained yourself to gloss over citations, of which there are many, but this is a graduate level text so you better get used to citations. The text nicely borrows across the theoretical disciplines contributing to organizational theory: management, industrial psychology, sociology, etc. It's a textbook but it's almost like reading the primary texts because it directly refers to and compares different theories and empirical studies.Oh, and I took the course with Davis himself, really fun guy, his humor does show through in some portions of text.

Base book for organisational theories
Scott and Davis neatly packed key issues of the organisational theories in this book. Though the theories themselves are much broader and to have deeper understanding of each particular theory this book is not enough. But is gives enough for general understanding of the discipline and serves as an introduction to further readings on the subject.
