Dishwasher Safe, Nice Looks, Comparable Price.
I've been very pleased with this meat tenderizer. Most on the market are not dishwasher safe. This one is and is comparable in price. I like the fact there is a smooth side and a textured side. Some other meat tenderizers have a similar setup but don't provide adequate hand protection. This one's handle flares out to protect your hand from the sharp points when the flat side is being used. The part that actually does the tenderizing simply unscrews from the handle. You flip it over, and screw it back on to choose which surface you want to use for the job. The handle's shape is also comfortable to hold onto and is much more compact than a hammer style meat tenderizer.

Nice meat pounder
I got this because I was looking for something better than the little meat hammer I've used since I was a boy. I had made some chicken piccata and had pretty much shredded the meat with the hammer - mostly, I think, because of its small surface area. This has a nice big surface - I used it on some more chicken piccata and it worked fine. I also like its ability to tenderize meat (you unscrew the handle and screw it in on the other side so the prongs stick out. I haven't tried this, but it looks like it'll do the job. You have better control over the hammer action, I think, because you grasp the tool and your arm becomes the hammer handle, so to speak. There's a plastic piece that goes between the handle and the hammer surface. I think it keeps the handle tight. Looks like it'd be easy to lose when cleaning.

Nice weight and having both a flat and toothed reversible disc is a nice feature.
This meat tenderizer is heavy enough to pound without being too heavy to use. The fact that the base is reversible to be used either for smooth smashing or toothed tenderizing is a nice feature. The drawback is that it did not come with any directions, and although anyone can figure out how to remove and replace the pounding base, there is a plastic ring that goes between the handle and the pounding base, and there is nothing saying whether or not this ring is just for shipping and storage or it is suppose to be left in place while pounding. If it is supposed to be left in place, it is pretty fragile, and I don't imagine it will last very long. Two issues that have been raised by reviewers that I would like to address.1. The label that comes on the bottom of the flat pounder side of the disc. I found this label very easy to remove just by getting a fingernail all the way under it to make sure it was completely released, pulling slowly, and using my finger nail to loosen the label again any time part of it started not to come off. The rest of the glue attaching the label to the disc rubbed off easy just using my fingers. If this label had been sticking on pounders sold previously, they seem to have fixed that problem.2. Some reviewers have been upset that this tenderizer is chrome over zinc rather than stainless steel. First, it should be noted that Chromium is one of the metals that is used to make stainless steel (16% recommended), and both chrome and zinc are corrosion resistant. They are often used as a protective coating on iron and steel products. The fact that this is chrome over zinc is not necessarily something that lessens the quality, and it may actually enhance the resistance to corrosion.

This thing of beauty will last forever.
I got mine over two years ago. I love it. I put it in the dishwasher almost every day. No rust. Two years of frequent use and it looks new. It weighs a lot and feels good in my hand. It still shines and looks brand spankin' new. ... My old Irish neighbor would say,"A thing of beauty will last forever." That's true of this meat tenderizer.

BEST PURCHASE EVER
I don't know how I managed to prepare food without this tool for so many years. It is substantial, very easy to clean and flattens chicken, pork, etc. without tearing or shredding the meat. The chicken for my piccata and parmesan come out the perfect thickness every time. Sending love to whoever invented this design.

does the job beautifully
This is basically a response to other reviews. It's very easy to clean. If your using it to pound thin place a piece of plastic wrap or parchment paper between the meat and the pounder and no mess at all. If your using the tenderizer side just unscrew the base after use and voila, it's supper easy to wash. To the person complaining that your hand could slip and impale on the points. The handle is oval allowing for a firm no slip grip, and if you somehow managed to slip the flared base keeps your hand safely away from the points. It is heavy, about 3# but that makes it easier to use let the weight of the tool do the work, you just need to aim at where you want it to hit.

NOT stainless, but plated zinc.
This is a bait and switch. “Triple plated chrome over zinc” reads the sticker on the tenderizer handle. The Amazon description said stainless steel, but no part of the item is stainless. There are cheaper options for those who don't mind chrome plating wearing off in their food.

Stick your sticker ELSEWHERE!
Poorly wrapped in box. Box was crushed on one side & item sticker on flat side of item was very, very difficult to peel off. Resorted to soaking bottom flat part in soapy water to remove the sticker residue. (Couldn’t use anything but fingers to remove for fear of scratching item)Please consider a different spot for your item sticker.Otherwise, works fine as intended.

Best I ever used.
I've tried other types of different weights and sizes and either can't flatten the meat or just shred it. This one (I think about 1 1/2 lb) works perfectly. Just lift about an inch or two above meat and allow the weight to drop. (Meat between plastic wrap of course) Does the job quickly without a lot of effort.

Not useable due to inventory label
Product looks great except how the F*#% am I supposed to get the sticker and glue off the surface Designed to pound meat? There was a nice clear static type label on the handle reminding that it has a reversible head but I'm assuming the seller placed their own inventory sticker on the food surface. Do I go out and buy some kind of goo remover?
