This will NOT replace a drill press, but it will work.
I bought this for my off grid shed, because there’s no power and a drill press wasn’t feasible. My intent was to use this to drill holes in wooden bases (using spade bits) to install led lights. When I first set it up, I wasn’t too impressed because it seemed rickety and wobbled. I looked at it and realized that I didn’t have it put together properly and when I made the correct changes, this thing was pretty solid. I did make a couple modifications by attaching another resin base plate, and then screwing it down to a board to hold it and the wood I’m drilling, in place. It’s not the greatest setup, but it works quite well for what I’m doing. I’ll update with some pictures when I can. Will this replace a drill press, no. But if all you can afford is a device like this, once it’s set up properly, it will drill straight holes.I haven’t tried it on any kind of angle, because I don’t need it for that, I’m sure it’ll be fairly accurate, as long as you assemble it properly.

So far, good enough.
The jury is still out on this one. I teetered between 3 stars and 4, so gave Wolfcraft the benefit of the doubt. I used it in a powerful 1/2" electric drill (D****t) to drill seven 30o 1.75" holes in a 2x8. It worked alright - no major issues. Overall it seems solid enough with first use. Most of the guide is metal. The knobs and handles are plastic. Also plastic are the top and bottom piece to each spring loaded rod that connect the rods to the base. I can see over time where these might wear out or gain "slop", but only time and use will tell. I'll adjust my review accordingly if need be. Also, those pieces I just described enable you to set the guide at 90o (perpendicular - as shown in vendor's picture), or 15o, 30o or 45o from perpendicular. There is some "slop" in those adjustments. It was not critical in my large bored holes, but with nicer furniture or cabinets I could see where that might present some issues. It chucked up fine to my drill. At that 30o bore, it did not go thru all the way the 2x lumber. After I drilled the holes from the top, I flipped the board, lined up the forstner with the hole as closely as I could, then resumed the hole. I did have to clamp the guide to the board to ensure as close to perfect alignment a possible when drilling the rest of the hole from the backside. When finished, I cleaned it real well and used some light machine oil in the "bearing" of the guide. My biggest complaint about this item is the fitment of the chuck key to the chuck. It is very loose. You must hold the key square, and firm to the chuck otherwise the chuck will slip and begin to round off the "teeth" on the chuck. This drill guide got the best reviews of any I could find on Amazon or any other major tool website, and, was the most affordable. I believe for what Wolfcraft charges for this tool there could be a little better engineering and QA. If that were the case, they couldn't keep them on the shelves!Update: 15 May 2016. My rating remains at 4 stars. I bought a Jacob's chuck for this item, model U4G61. It is a 3/8 chuck with standard 3/8-24 thread. Fit perfectly. Holds various bits (including Forstner) far better with no slippage. Also, this chuck has a perfect fitting key without all the slippage of the chuck and key that came with this tool. There is still a little slop on aligning the bit with the center of your mark - it is inconsistent - but for most of what I use it for, that inconsistency doesn't matter much. I use a drill press for exact centered holes. I still believe Wolfcraft could stop skimping and use better quality parts, tolerances and QA for what they charge for this. Still, there is little else like it on the market so I'm forced to use what I can find.

I don't understand how other customers can be so critical of this tool
So, this is not really a 5 star product, more like 4 star, but I felt the need to counter some of this insanely negative feedback. First of all, this is not a substitute for a real drill press, but that should be obvious. Also, for $27, you should not expect the tool to be engineered to do highly precise or heavy drilling (plate steel, etc.).This product does exactly what is says it does. It helps you put nice, true holes through pieces of wood where you can not use a drill press. I have not used it for angled drilling, and I would think that might be a bit challenging, but still, the results would be much better than a free hand job by the average home improver.Positive: tool functions smoothly, and holds its angle very well - solid as a rock (not sure how anyone had wobble in this tool if they set it up right. However, there is a bit of play in the chuck/chuck housing. It will go a few degrees either way, but again, still better than free handing. The chuck works well, it is not a high precision chuck, but again, we are talking about a $27 tool, and for that price, it works very well.Negative: the on critique I would have of the design is the base. They put a big groove down the middle of the base that you are supposed to use for on-edge drilling. It is a good idea, but it means that the base is not really solid when you are working near the edge of a piece of material. The on edge groove, really could be 1.5 inches, since over that you could use the flat. It is a bit frustrating, but you could easily screw a piece of plywood to the base and make it more stable near edges.I would definitely recommend this product to the casual woodworker. It may not stand up to daily professional use, but at this price, it is a great tool to have around.

Buen producto

kinda flimsy
too much plastic in the key parts and too much motion in the assembly. this isn't very sturdy and could be made a better by using more metal parts to adjust the angle of the drill.

Inställningar
Inte den enklaste att få till inställningar när man ska borra i konstiga vinklar. Känns aningen ranglig, så kontrollera alla skruvar till stödbenen.45° och 90° är inga problem.
