Tree Fu Tom Ultimate Tom

I thought I'd write a review on this toy given the mixed reviews so far and the fact that some of the 5-star reviews were from people who had bought as a Xmas present and were little more than patting themselves on the back for buying such a great toy that hadn't actually yet been given to the child...... With it being near to Xmas and many parents debating as to whether to buy this toy I also wanted to dispel some of the so-called problems experienced by other purchasers:1. The wings DO come off but that DOESN'T mean it's broken! The wings come off in order to access the battery compartment at the back of the toy. That said, it is a little irritating when they come off during play. That is easily solved - the battery compartment can still be accessed adequately (tiny bit more fiddly) even if the wings are attached, so all I have done is apply a thin smear of superglue to the inside circumference of the attachment - at the point where the wing attaches to Tom. Job done - wings don't come off again and the battery compartment can still be accessed.2. If Tom keeps repeating the same phrase then it's time to change the batteries - that is all!3. The instructions supplied with the toy clearly state that the batteries supplied are "demo-batteries" only and should be replaced immediately. That is true! Within 2 hours of my son using it, the toy started to repeat the same phrase over and over. All that was required was a change of batteries and it went back to normal again. The batteries needed are AG13 size (watch-size) and you'll need 3 of them. You can either buy Duracell ones from B&Q at £4.98 for 2 (I kid you not) or you can buy them from Amazon for £1.49 for 20 (Eunicell). They have been superb and lasted a long time and at that price are a great buy. Amazon do sell Duracell AG13's as well but the reviews are not good due to the seller selling ones close to their 'Best Before' date. You don't need Duracell anyway as the Eunicell ones really are great.As to the toy itself; it really is superb. Tom's belt has 2 buttons on it that provide 30 phrases from the series as well as the sapstone lighting up; the holopax on his wrist also lights up and more phrases come out. The button on his chest opens his wings and when he's off-vertical the theme music plays over and over. His legs, arms and head also move. Sound quality is excellent and the voice is the same voice used in the TV series.My son has had this toy for 3 weeks now, takes it everywhere with him, plays with it incessantly and it has stood up to it all. This is a great toy and I would definitely recommend it. My top tip for anyone buying it is to purchase the Eunicell batteries at the same time (you WILL need them!) as well as a small tube of super-glue. Have all that ready for Xmas Day then you can sit back, relax, watch your son playing with his new toy and bathe in the warm glow that you really are the best parent in the whole world!

I as very disappointed with this. My little boy is a huge Tree Fu Tom fan and has been waiting a long time for this toy. He completed a reward chart in order to get the toy but when it arrived it broke within 2 hours of (gentle) play. The wings kept dropping off. I was so angry as it is an expensive toy. I returned it which meant my little boy had to be without it for several days which led to many tears. Amazon were good as gold about replacing it but when we got the replacement I couldn't believe that this time the wing mechanism wasn't working properly (the wings are supposed to pop out when you press a button). We have managed to get it working but it still is not quite right and the wings only pop out sometimes. I can't return it again (although I would like my money back) as it is obviously an issue with the toy itself and my little boy won't let it go a second time!! Although he loves this toy this is why I have only given 2 stars. If it was a £5 toy I wouldn't mind but for over £20 I think it's disgraceful for it to be such poor quality.

Here's what I like about this toy:-Great quality feel of the toy.-Voice quality is ultra clear and not too loud.-When the wings pop out the theme music plays (fun for flying him around)-Great phrases from the show.What I didn't like:- My finger (skin) once got caught on the knee, trying to straighten the knee...and it was PAINFUL.-The wings will fall out relatively easily I find (once his green cape is removed, which kids will do).-The music will play all day long, unless you stop it (can drive you mad!)

I ordered this toy for my son's birthday. Having bought some of the smaller Tree Fu Tom figures and finding out how poorly made they were I was a bit hesitant about ordering this one. Thankfully, this toy is well made and has been played with everyday with no bits falling off it. The figure is articulated and poseable although his joints were a little stiff at first. If you hold Tom horizontally as if he is flying the music from the TV show starts to play. I'm quite impressed with the voice of Tree Fu Tom, rather than sounding tinny and cheap it is clear and is the very voice from the TV show. Tom's Sapstone belt and Holopax glow brightly and with a press of a button Tree Fu Tom's wings pop out. Tom measures 26cm tall which is just over 10 inches.

Overall its ok, not at all to the size the pic with the kid implies, but the build quality is great and my little one won't break Tom for awhile. limited/repeatative phrases and takes ages to shut up, i think he says good bye 3 times before Tree fu Tom finally figures out he is being ignored.

I bought this item a month or so ago and was left feeling very disappointed. Taking heed of advice not to buy other Tree Fu Tom items due to their poor quality, I chanced this purchase instead. However, the wings fell off atleast every two minutes which was extremely frustrating for my little boy.The quality of the sound is great and as long as your child doesn't wish to use the wings (which flick out at the touch of the button, then promptly fall off), then it's fine.After two days of using this toy, the batteries ran out, so I bought more as the toy, despite its defects, was well used, however these ran out the same day. We give up!My son has put Tom - his favourite TV character - to the bottom of his toy box and has said he will ask Father Christmas for another one that "isn't broken all the time."Very poorly designed!

My little boy loved it but its batteries started running out the day we got it! And it gets stuck on one phrase, So not very long life for brand new toy which is disappointing
