Works with GCM12SD, and is bright if you follow a simple tip
Contrary to some of the other reviews, this does work on the GCM12SD. I'm not saying those reviewers are wrong, just that Bosch may have changed the design of either the laser or the saw in response.Since the unit is, by definition, aligned with the blade, it very accurately represents where the blade will cut IF you always hold the blade at the same height when aligning the piece to cut. That's the one problem with this: the laser is not perfectly parallel with the blade (nor is it designed to be). So, as you lower the blade the line moves. In some sense that's a pretty bad design flaw. But it does mean that the line can actually represent where the edge of the blade will cut, which a truly parallel beam could not do. The trade is that you have to figure out the approximate height where that is true. (According to the instructions that's about 6 inches above the piece, and that's proven about right for me.)I also have a sneaking suspicion that those who find the laser to be too dim are trying to view it while the lower blade guard is still covering the blade (i.e. when the saw is in the UP position). In order for the line to be bright, you need to lower the blade slightly so that the guard retracts. This also brings the laser closer to the work piece, which makes it brighter. The fact that the laser is casting a line by spinning means that the brightness is inversely proportional to the distance away from the wood. All in all, this is probably worth it for the price. It would be nice if Bosch would actually put lasers on their darn saws (they aren't cheap) but absent of that I recommend this.

Works just fine with my GCM12SD
Works just fine with my GCM12SD. Ideally I really wish Bosch included the dual lasers like the Euro version of this saw has, but this is not a horrible option. I have other saws with lasers and most are unreliable, inaccurate, and go through batteries like crazy because I will just leave the laser on all day. This one is always accurate, and is not on when the saw isn't running so the batteries last longer. Of course the biggest downside is that it's not on when the saw isn't running so it's not very useful for making quick reference cuts. Like a lot of old school finish guys learned to do precision cuts by intentionally making notch cuts off my mark and then working the piece in while the blade is running, so this laser is similar to that process, but just simplifies it and makes it faster. However for a novice who is not used to or comfortable with moving the workpiece while the saw is running, this could be dangerous. It's also fairly dim and almost unusable in direct sunlight, but almost all lasers are, and Dewalt's XPS is completely useless in similar conditions. All in all it's not great, and it definitely has some flaws, but it's useful and a worthwhile addition.

Works on GCM12SD with easy modification!!
I didn't quite understand why this didn't work on the Bosch GCM-12SD sliding miter saw, so I bought it. When I got it, I finally understand what the problem is ... there is, on the back of the laser washer, a keyed hole. That keyed hole is not deep enough. As a result it does not sit close enough to the blade to tighten down the blade. So, the blade will not "catch" and thus spins independent of the motor shaft. Not good, Bosch ...So here is what I did to fix it. I got some of that thick rubbery material that you use to line cabinets and I cut it into a circle (the size of the laser washer). I then cut a small hole so it would fit between the laser washer and the blade. Now, when I tighten the laser washer the rubber material fills the small gap between the laser washer and the blade. Problem solved. The laser still seems to be accurate on its cuts, so all is good. So happy to have a laser on this awesome saw!As for brightness, i use my saw indoors and I have no problem seeing the laser. I love how the laser line is very fine making it easier to make accurate cuts. All in all, bosch needs to fix this design flaw. Until then, use this method and it works great.

Works well, now fits 12-inch glide miter saw
I read all the Amazon reviews, like I always do, before ordering this. A number of them were clearly installing an older iteration of this washer, and had to adapt it. I guessed that it would have been fixed by now, because the GSC12SD Bosch is an important saw, and found that to be true. In other words, this thing fits fine and installs easily ( but not super-easily. And nothing in the attached instructions tell you whether it already has batteries in it, which it does.I would say its performance is excellent. There are two big drawbacks to this design: 1.) it's only for right-handers, gives you no help if you are cutting on the right side of the saw, and 2.) It does nothing until the saw is spinning. #2 is a major drawback; nobody should be pushing a board toward a running saw blade, but that's what you will be doing if you use the laser as a primary guide. So therefore I use it only as a double-check, making it much less convenient than it could be.

dim and deficient
Like others, I was a little surprised at how dim it is. But the real problem was that it replaced the washer on my Bosch miter saw, but unbeknownst to me was that even when very tight, it was letting my blade slip a little on startup. Months later when I had to change the blade I saw the wear cut into the blade. The wear on the laser was only on half of the circular washer - as though it was not totally square with the shaft when tight. I tried it on the new blade and then replaced it with the standard washer and I could actually hear a different sound during startup. I apparently was hearing the slipping sound all along and but assumed that was the sound of the saw - and with the washer in place it was notable different. Apparently it bottoms out on the shaft and not the blade, allowing slippage - even though it is only slight slippage during the initial acceleration. The out-of-square issue was probably due to the same thing - that it was tightening on the shaft before it was square and tightening on the blade. And these were Bosch blades. So I have stopped using the laser.

Know what you're getting, and what you're not
I grudging bought this for the Glide 12" saw. For such an expensive saw, it really should include a laser. This arbor laser is very expensive for what it is. One of the greatest benefits of a laser is being able to accurately match the saw's angle to a scribe line on your material. With this laser you will have to engage the saw and then adjust it to be able to see the laser line. It uses cell batteries so when transporting your saw in cold weather it will rapidly kill your battery life. It can be temperamental and sometimes you will have to stop and start the saw a few times to get the laser to actually start working. It is not bright enough to use outdoors in daylight and is difficult to see in brightly lit situations indoors. Finally, it will not last more than a few years if you are using it professionally before it stops completely. Bosch will not fix it and will only help you if it quits within 90 days of purchase.

Great device
Works very well, but be aware the laser is not centered, but will indicate laser on side of blade. Does not work well outdoors on sunny day.

laser washer
it's exactly what you need if you want lines for cutting but I find it heavy , what will it do to the shaft on a long run ?

Works great inside though or in the shade
Won’t work outside on a sunny day unless you’re wearing infrared glasses. Works great inside though or in the shade.

accuracy
Super easy install on a 12" millwaukee double compound saw. Luckily the blade does NOT cut too much. However, the laser line does leave 1/32 of material, uncut. In other words, it does not cut "on the line". Thus 4 out of 5 rating. As a carpenter, I make due with such in-accuracy and learn to compensate.
