DC Comics: Super-Villains: The Complete Visual History

I guess I'm used to the Handbooks & Ultimate Guides. This book doesn't have the quick reference format with stats (like height, weight, powers, weapons, etc.) It's more art & text. My criticism is that it consumes a lot of space with full page art, while it leaves out a lot of villains from DC's vast history. And some of the art just isn't worthy of a full page. I would've liked to see a wider range of art from different periods instead of so many full page spreads for each of the more famous villains. The tome is called the "Complete Visual History," yet the focus is mostly on the current continuity versions of the characters - there's not a lot of "through the ages" or visual evolution depicted despite the sub-title. And if the space had been better utilized, then they could've included more villains & a wider range of art. The villains start out categorized by hero, but there are a lot of gaps since some heroes (such at Batman or Flash) have huge rogue's galleries. I was suprised there was no entry for Star Sapphire in Green Lantern's section, but such omissions seem to be a hallmark of this book.

The book is absolutely beautiful, with a very nice summary of major and minor villains. But, in the interest of art, gray ink is used on a black background on many pages. Very pretty. Also very difficult to read. Please keep us older comic aficiondos in mind when putting these books together.

This is really cool. It got here faster than expected which is a nice perk!It is heavy! And the illustrations are really detailed.I gave this to my husband for Christmas and he was really excited. It is harder to find DC than Marvel and he is a DC guy all the way. I was really excited to find this and he was way more excited to receive it :)

Doesn't include all villans but the main ones are there. Graphics are great.

A good read in terms of the background it offers on the characters. This book does not offer mere surface-level information; it goes the length to give the reader a complete understanding of the villains featured. I am especially fond of the way the book is organized as it makes for a more informative read. Well worth the money, no doubt.

Fantastic book though certainly not the "complete" visual history by any stretch of the imagination. Beautiful looking coffee table sized book that I would absolutely recommend but not for more than $25 - $30 max. Just my opinion though.
