Fantastic behind the scenes art book of Pink Floyd's The Wall film, album and tour.
I'm a huge fan of Pink Floyd and Roger Waters . The film of their epic album The Wall is a visual rollercoaster filled with dazzling graphic imagery, uncompromising style, dark emotions and some very different variations of the songs from the original album. This book is loaded with behind the scenes photos, art and behind the scenes looks from the film and the tour for The Wall. It's mostly a showcase for the album and movies creative artist Gerald Scarfe. There is plenty of unused concept art as well as models of his amazing characters used in the film, the live tours and some never seen before. There is a foreword by Roger Waters and many quotes and conversation's with the usual suspects. This is a large , heavy and beautifully printed coffee table art book. Did I mention every page is loaded with mostly never seen before pictures and art? A must have for fans of The Wall.

Do you think we should be..closer...closer....closer...closer...closer.....
If you're a Pink Floyd fan, and/or a The Wall fan (album, show, film, Berlin show, Waters solo fan),and Gerald Scarfe fan, and what Floyd fan isn't, you need to get a copy of this stupendous bookas soon as possible. As it is, stupidly I waited far too long to avail of a copy, now that's fixed.Totally great, comprehensive, fascinating, gorgeous, and essential. We've heard for years ofthe rows and problems that went on trying to bring The Wall to the big screen: well, get this, read Scarfe's utterly candid (sometimes scathingly so, even about his own behavior!) essayson the making of The Film, and you will finally understand why things went as they did,and how a film that monumental with all that was riding on it, gets made, and how too manygeniuses vying for creative/artistic control makes things rather complicated. That being said,I truly still wish Waters and Parker hadn't cut reel whatever and put Hey You back in the movie.Sigh. At least you can watch the rough version on the DVD these days. It's nonsense thatthey cut this pivotal song from the film!!! In retrospect, at least. I was too shellshockedby the film at first viewing to notice, actually. Which is weird. Anyway, buy this fabuloustome and all shall be explained. Buy a little blue book with yer poems in! Now!

As official as "official" gets, and loaded with eye candy . . . .
Even for jaded, exhausted, Pink Floyd fans, this book truly IS a must-have. It's loaded with inside information we never heard before, and likewise with images and sequences which you've probably never seen. I mean, who knew that Roger originally wanted to name his surrogate-protagonist "Punch" instead of "Pink"? (It was a very bad joke, because his real-life wife who left him for another man was the late Judy Trim -- "Punch and Judy", geddit? It would be an undying bad joke at a dead woman's expense.) That's just an early example of all the unusual things Scarfe reveals in this book.As other reviewers have noted, this book features:(a.) an Introduction by Roger Waters, primary songwriter of The Wall,(b.) new conversations between Scarfe and Waters,(c.) new conversations between Scarfe and Nick Mason, and(d.) a very brief new conversation between Scarfe and David Gilmour. That's on top of all the previously-unreleased full-color pictures and sketches. The book also delves (too briefly, in my opinion) into Scarfe's work on Roger Waters's "The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking", and --sadly-- only *previews* Roger's massively-successful, 2010-2013 world tour revival of The Wall.Hopefully, this book will someday be re-released with a new chapter on the revival, but we're talking about an aged man, so I wouldn't wait for it -- just go ahead and buy this one at your earliest convenience. It's well worth the money.

The Wall por dentro

WALL ARTWORK DEFINED!
What a great book. Loved it so much I ordered a second copy to send to my son who is currently serving in Afghanistan. This book is absolutely LOADED with pictures as well as great stories from the creator! Very impressive and also quite funny reading some of the stories. The artwork behind The Wall, Defined by the Artist himself. Anyone with any interest in The Wall album, movie, or current or past tours will enjoy this book. Being fortunate enough to have seen the Roger Waters "The Wall Live" tour in 2010 as well as again in 2012 I was happy to find this book, good timing. Thanks to Mr. Scarfe for all his fantastic talents!!

The Making of the Pink Floyd The Wall
Plenty of great pictures, drawings and sketches from the inception, the album, The Wall tours, through to the release of the film. The diary narative interspersed with the "chat" dialogue were interesting and entertaining. I found the Libretto at the end quite good as it indicated were most of the tv / film dialogues came from. The only down side would be the shortness of the final chapers, the Pros & Cons lp and tour especially, which should have contained alot more pictures. This was annoying mainly as I didn't get a chance to see the shows and a video didn't appear. On the whole this book is an enjoyable read, which will be flicked through on a regular basis for years to come while listening to the album(s).PS I suppose I should have held out for the revised addition as I'm sure one will arrive containing more pictures and sketches from the RW 2010/11 Wall Tour.Gerald

Everything about the wall that you want to see!
A very good, interesting, and complete book about The Wall era (1978-1982)...The book is filled with Scarfe's works for the Floyd and everything is explained or commented not only by Scarfe himself but also by R. Waters, D. Gilmour, N. Mason and A. Parker (the director of the film version). For every Floyd-fan - it's a "must have"! And furthermore, it's a great companion piece to "Mind Over Matter" by Storm Thorgerson.

What I've been waiting for for over 30 years.
I've given this five stars because I love Pink Floyd's The Wall and have always appreciated Gerald Scarfe's art. Previous books have not done justice to the amount of work that went into, what I consider to be his magnum opus. There's plenty of examples of Scarfe's development of ideas from scratch, including the stuff that got left out. It's also replete with amusing and insightful anecdotes about his relationship with the band, et al.I recommend this to anyone who's a fan of The Wall, and/or Scarfe's artwork. After reading the whole book, I find myself returning to it again, and again rereading sections, or gazing in awe at his unique use of colour and imagery.
