One in a Million (Lucky Harbor Book 12)

Lucille's last matchmaking attempt, LOVED IT!
4.5This review has two parts, the first one's about this book, the second's about the whole series.(Part 1)I enjoyed Tanner and Callie's story from the very start. It was a pleasure getting to know these characters and seeing them getting their second chance at love. The fact that Tanner had a teenage kid and that Callie's an important part of one of Lucky Harbor's dearest residents, made the book even better because it added different layers to it: the love between a father and a son, the love between a granddaughter and her grandma...And of course, I cannot not mention the rest of Lucky Harbor's supporting characters from the previous two books and even from earlier books. Of course I would've loved seeing every LH making an appearance because this is the last book (note: I say book, because there's still a novella left but that's shorter) but I loved seeing the little mentions. I couldn't help feeling nostalgia when Lucille would remember her matchmakings since book 1.'One in a Million' was a great addition to this amazing series. It was not perfect. Sometimes the MCs would frustrate me with their slowness, but in the end, I loved them individually and apart. There couldn't have been a better last book to this series than this one with Tanner and Callie, especially considering who Callie is.(Part 2)What can I say that I haven't said in my other eleven reviews? That Jill Shalvis did an amazing job bringing the town of Lucky Harbor and its residents to life. I'm still grateful of the day I checked the RITA awards winners one day and saw a book called 'Simply Irresistible'. I read the plot, read the book and BAM! I was in love with this town.I never thought the book would go on to be a series of twelve books (and some novellas). I never thought that I would be in this moment, reading a book 12 (because I usually give up on long series). But Jill Shalvis and Lucky Harbor are magic and I couldn't let them go.I'm grateful for that first book that introduced me to Maddie, Jax, Tara, Ford, Chloe, Sawyer and my dearest Lucille, because if it hadn't been for them, I wouldn't have known the other characters that followed and I wouldn't be feeling a tiny bit sad (okay, a lot sad) that this series has ended. But you know what? I'm not saying goodbye. These books will be in my bookshelf waiting to be read. These characters are in my heart and they're not going away.Jill, thank you for sharing this town with us. Thank you for the laughter, smiles, tears, happiness and love you brought into my life.THANK YOU for Maddie, Jax, Tara, Ford, Chloe, Sawyer, Mallory, Ty, Amy, Matt, Grace, Josh, Ali, Luke, Leah, Jack, Aubrey, Ben, Becca, Sam, Olivia, Cole, Callie, Tanner.Thank you for Phoebe, Mia, Lance, Tucker, Anna, Toby, Mrs. Burland, Mr. Wykowski, Mr. Lyons and every other senior citizen. And last but not least, thank you for Lucille, for the laughter her matchmaking brought me, for her love to every Lucky Harbor resident and for her social media skills.Lucille, I'm sad you're retiring from your matchmaking job but thank you for doing an excellent job all these years.Lucky Harbor books in my order of preference:1. Simply Irresistible (Maddie & Jax) book 12. Lucky in Love (Mallory & Ty) book 43. The Sweetest Thing (Tara & Ford) book 24. Once in a Lifetime (Aubrey & Ben) book 95. The End of an Era
This is the end of Jill Shalvis' Lucky Harbor series, which, while not perfect (the middle books were pretty "meh" in my opinion), I still highly, highly recommend to anyone who likes contemporary romance. There is one character (and I think only one character) who appears in all twelve books: Lucille, the social media savvy, octogenarian, gossip maven who has made it her mission to play matchmaker to all of the lonely young single folk in town. Sometimes overtly, sometimes covertly, Lucille has engineered the twelve happy ever afters that make up the series, and this last book features her crowning achievement: seeing her own introverted granddaughter, Callie, happily matched with the object of Callie's high school crush, Tanner. Callie and Tanner are both people who take care of everyone else before seeing to their own needs. Tanner gave up his college football scholarship to join the Navy and support his family when he accidentally got a girl pregnant (it turns out the pregnancy was not so much an accident on the girl's part). He supports his ex, his kid, and his mother financially and emotionally, and when his ex decides to remarry, Tanner welcomes the opportunity to step up and become a full time parent to his son, now an angry adolescent. Meanwhile, Callie drops everything to come back to Lucky Harbor to take care of her possibly senile grandma, and she takes calls at all hours of the day and night and performs impossible tasks to make sure her clients' weddings are perfect (she runs a wedding planning business), even when her own Big Day went bust when her then-fiance stood her up at the altar. The two of them are so used to putting others' needs first, each foolishly believes the other when they say they don't believe in love and aren't looking for anything serious, even when it's crystal clear from the very beginning that each is developing serious feelings for the other. This leads to predictable misunderstandings and wounded feelings, but luckily Tanner and Callie have a lot of friends and loved ones who help them do the right thing, even when their own prior hurts blind them to the obvious.I didn't love this book, because the I-don't-wanna-love-you-because-REASONS (in this case, I've-been-burned-before-so-I'm-just-not-gonna-put-myself-out-there) trope isn't my favorite, but it was a satisfying and fitting capstone to a mostly thoroughly enjoyable series.

LOVE, LOVE , LOVE!
5 very bright shiny stars for One in a Million. I'm pretty sure this is the last book in the series which I'm gutted about but I'm sure Jill Shalvis will go onto to write another great series. If you're new to the series I'm jealous cos you've got 12 brilliant books to read. Go right back to the beginning and enjoy them all.One in a Million is a lovely end to the series. It was nice to see the relationship between Callie and Lucille. Tanner Riggs is yummy and his developing relationship with his teenage son is also a great part of the story. I loved the final chapter which was funny and sweet. That's what Jill Shalvis is so good at writing.
