No, it switches between the modes, meaning the next time you turn it on it will be the opposite of the mode you last used.

Intermittent cutting in and out of the light when fully charged batteries are present can be a strong indicator that the on off switch is malfunctioning. This is a common problem with poorly designed flashlight switches. This design flaw should have already been corrected by the manufacturer. This light is not exactly cheap at $19. I purchased this same light and it started exhibiting unreliable flashing and cutting in and out after only a few short uses and within the 1st 2 days of use. I have wasted plenty of money on flashlights with this same cutting in and out. Therefore I am sharing my experience with this very nice but very unreliable and unpredictable light. Consideration of competitors like Streamlight has proven very satisfactory. My Streamlight usb rechargeable lights are very reliable in comparison and they 'do not' cut in and out like this Anker flashlight does. Simply put.
