Whoopies!: Fabulous Mix-and-Match Recipes for Whoopie Pies

Recipes need some in-kitchen reality checks--and corrections
I purchased this book hoping to learn how to make delightful Whoopie Pies, which sounded so wonderful. And they are, but the recipe book is not necessarily so. It needs some in-kitchen reality checks. For my first attempt at making these little treats, I chose the basic recipe towards the back of the book. I went out and purchased exactly the supplies the author specifies, looking especially for a 2" diameter ice cream scoop. I made the recipe exactly as directed. The recipe was supposed to make 24 halves of dough. Using the 2" ice cream scoop, filling it level exactly as directed, resulted in only 12 halves. Each little cup in the special whoopie pie pan was filled to overflowing, and it took almost double the amount of indicated time to bake. The resultant pies were overwhelmingly rich with way too much "cookie". In my opinion you need an ice cream scoop (or cookie dough scoop) that's about 1" in diameter, or fill the larger scoop only halfway full. The filling made up perfectly and was delicious. I won't yet be discouraged by the problems with this recipe--the author should have caught that one right away and would have done so if someone had field tested the recipes before publishing. I will try another recipe to see how it goes--these little treats are just too yummy to give up on! I may need to purchase a different recipe book by a different author, but I will eventually learn how to make them! The photos in this book are good, the information in the front, about supplies and techniques, are quite well done. But not the recipes themselves.

So far the BEST whoopies!
I just got this book two days ago and I picked 2 recipes I'd been wanting to try. I made the banana whoopies and the oatmeal whoopies. I made the banana ones exactly as the recipe was written and BOY are they delicious. I think they're the best whoopies I've ever tasted. The oatmeal ones I omitted the chocolate chunks because I wanted to make something more like a little debbie oatmeal cream pie. These are also really really tasty. So 2 out of 2 recipes so far are awesome. I can't wait to make more. I keep having to give whoopies away so I can try new recipes :) This book is totally worth the price, which is cheap! There are photos for each of the main recipes, and at the bottom of each page is an alternate way to make the same recipe. The frosting for the banana whoopies is so good. It has a tablespoon of honey instead of vanilla, which adds such a nice flavor. Perfect with the banana flavor of the cake. I can't get over how good they turned out!

Great book but not sure about the actual recipe instructions??
Great book, nice pictures, interesting story about Whoopie Pies. Since I grew up in the York/Lancaster County, Pennsylvania area, I know all about Whoopie Pies! So, the only thing I am having trouble with is the Whoopie Pie batter seems gummy and dry. I am trying to make Pumpkin Whoopies, but the batter seems off?? I went over it twice and made sure I did everything exactly as the recipe states?? I just wonder if anyone else had this happen to them?? The batter seems too dry and gummy??! Can't figure it outπ©

Finally, the Whoopie Pie Book I've Been Looking For!
Living in Maine my entire life, I was raised on whoopie pies and have high standards. Every whoopie pie book I've tried has disappointed me, so I didn't have high hopes when I ordered this. What a delightful surprise! The recipes are simple and fail-proof, but sooo yummy. I plan on trying almost every recipe in the book. Best of all, each recipe has a gorgeous full-color photo; I challenge you to flip through this book without drooling. Given the price, I was expecting a pretty small book, but it's good-sized and high-quality. I highly recommend this book to everyone, from a first-timer to an experienced whoopie pie enthusiast. Thanks, Susanna Tee, for creating the whoopie pie book I've been searching for!

Nice book
Lots of great recipes in this book. I haven't tried any yet but will in the near future. I usually bake the chocolate whoopie pies and they are soooo good. Never any left when I make them. I'm excited to try the pumpkin next. Also ordered the whoopie pie pan, takes the guessing out of the portions and they are nice and round.Lots of fun if you like baking.

Inspiring ideas
I was already familiar with making whoopie pies when I bought this book; I'd made a good percentage of the recipes in Claire Ptak's book on the subject, and was basically looking for new flavours and ideas to try. This book jumped out at me (mainly because at the time it was the cheapest one on Amazon!), so I decided to go with it.The book is very well organised into four seasonal chapters. The whoopies themselves range from the basic (ie two cakey discs sandwiched together) to the more elaborate (those that have a topping as well, or perhaps two different fillings), so there is something for all levels of expertise. The photography is good and the recipes themselves sound very appetising, so it is definitely a book that you'd want to cook from. However, what was not clear before I bought it is that all the recipes use US measures only; no metric or imperial equivalents are given. I went out and bought a set of cheap cups (you can get them in Poundland believe it or not!) so I could use this book.To those of you who have never made whoopie pies my advice is: GO FOR IT! They are lots of fun and very easy to do (although not exactly quick). It is also very satisfying as you know they are well appreciated when no one seems to be able to resist having one more! To describe them to the uninitiated, I would say they are a cross between a cream biscuit and a sandwich cake; neither cake nor biscuit, but with elements of both. Whatever you'd describe them as, they're very tasty!Overall, I would recommend this book. The instructions are easy to follow, and the recipes are very nice. However, do be warned that you will need some US cup measures first.

Great mix and match introduction to whoopies
Such a great introduction to making whoopie pies. My 3 year old son has had so much fun looking through it with me and picking out which one we'll make next.Simple step by step instructions with big colourful pictures, the added value of having them divided by season is great! Definitely would recommend and may possibly purchase as a gift for a friend if they were interested in trying their hand at whoopies!
