I got both the HDHomeRun and the Tablo, here is my comparison review
I purchased both the Tablo Dual, and the SiliconDust HDHomeRun Flex Duo.I like them both for different reasons and will use both. The Tablo is a bit more expensive, but the setup was easy, it can be used with wifi. On Windows you can access it see the Channel Guide and watch/record shows via a web browser. The layout is great, and easy to use. You have more options using the Tablo. The app for Roku works well, and also has a great layout and many options. While it can be used for free you will probably want to pay the $50 a year for the advanced Guide and recording. You will need a local USB drive plugged into the device to record. The HDHomeRun is cheaper, the setup is even easier than the Tablo, so would be great for non-tech users. However, on Windows you must go to the Microsoft store and install an app. The layout for the Channel Guide is more modern but not as easy to see what is on. The Roku app works but is also clunky. The device does not have Wi-Fi, so it must be plugged in directly to your router/switch, which may not be the location where your antenna connection is. You will probably want to pay the $35 a year for the advanced guide and DVR recording.*Here is the kicker for HDHomeRun. If you have a Plex server, you can easily connect it to the HDHomeRun device. Then you get a great channel guide, DVR recording, and the ability to watch your shows inside of Plex without needing to pay the $35. Also in Plex, you will have everything organized by season and episode number.I didn’t check phone or Firestick apps, as I don’t use them very often for watching shows. Conclusion, if you want simple and cheap get HDHomeRun, it works well if you want to just watch local TV. If you want to be more complex but have a great setup using Plex also get HDHomeRun.If you want easy to setup, great interface in both Windows and Roku, add in your own USB drive for recording, then get the Tablo. Quite frankly they both work well.

Hard to do wifi setup
Very difficult, frustrating wifi setup. Finally did what instructions said not to do (I put my phone in airplane mode and then turned on wifi. Finally connected and finished setup. Great device for using my Rokus to watch and record OTA channels. Seems to work fine so far. Test recording via wifi was fine. They need to create app so you can use laptop for setup. Having to use a phone wasn't great. But again finally figured it out.Two year update. I've lowered my original rating from 4 to 2 stars. My first experience with their customer service was very good but since then they have done nothing to fix the persistent issues with incorrect channel information in the guide. With my antenna hooked to my TV I get 53 channels. Hooked to the Tablo I get 48. The missing channels are ones I would like to see on the Tablo. There are still two channels that scan into the Tablo with no guide information. There are 6 others that have the wrong guide information and/or are not the channels they say they are. I've tried using other zip codes within the area. In fact if I use my own zip code it's much worse. In two years they have done nothing to improve the situation and now when I contact them they just say it will be fixed in future firmware updates but that never happens. I would NOT recommend the Tablo. Yes, it is the least expensive OTR DVR sort of. But you do have to purchase your own hard drive to add to it. To me the AirTV is a better value and has more features for the money and it works. I'm very disappointed in the Tablo.Update to original review: PLEASE DO NOT BUY THE TABLO. I've now had mine for a long time and the issues get worse instead of better. On my TV tuner I get several channels the Tablo doesn't pick up. I have numerous guide errors and missing guide data. I've contacted customer service. First time they helped and fixed some of the issues but they won't do this now. They just tell me they'll be fixed in figure firmware updates. Honestly? How hard could it be to be able to give the user the ability to unmatch and repair guide issues? And why are there channels with NO data? I get guide data on my TV tuner and they're all correct.
