Fantastic little pots
I actually bought these not for culinary uses, but to use to hold boardgame components when playing games such as Agricola that have many (many (many)) pieces. For that purpose they're fantastic: because they're melamine they have a bit of weight to them, so they don't tip over in use like the cheap disposable sauce pots I was previously using did. And they're the perfect size for the chits and wooden tokens in most games. But I guess most people reading this won't be wanting them for that purpose, and this leads me on to the point of my confusion. These are ramekins and, in my mind, a ramekin is a little ceramic (or, occasionally, glass) pot you cook individual pies, cakes or whatnots in. Whereas these "ramekins" are made of melamine, something you really don't want to be putting in the oven (or microwave for that matter) as it will bubble and melt. So you could only really use these pots for room temperature, chilled or frozen food. And I imagine they'd be pretty great for making individual servings of trifle, for example. You could also use them as serving pots for sauces (e.g. ketchup) or particle foods (e.g. sweetcorn or peas) and I imagine they'd be great for that too.Anyhow, 12 weighty, quality feeling pots for under 8 quid is pretty great in my opinion, even if you can't cook in them. And they suit me fine as I don't plan on cooking my boardgame chits and tokens any time soon. And I can see why they call them 'utopia'. In the parallel dystopian world they'd be made of expanded polystyrene which would be even more disastrous in the oven.
