Meet Louise and Martine Fokkens: 69-year-old identical twins who have worked as prostitutes in Amsterdam's red light district for over 50 years. Louise is newly retired due to arthritis ( I couldn't get one leg over the other ), but Martine carries on, unable to support herself on a state pension. Between explicit scenes of her daily grind, she and Louise stroll the city in matching outfits, recounting hilariously ribald stories from a lifetime of sex work. (Discussing a client who was a chaplain, one recalls: Don't you remember, we even had a little confessional! ) An immensely affectionate portrait of two women who have seen and done everything (and everyone), Meet the Fokkens is a rollicking and revealing look at the world's oldest profession in the 21st century.

Surprised by graphic content
I heard about the sisters, and how they had started a union for prostitutes. I guess I thought it would be more of a historic perspective of unique lives. There is a lot of serious material, covering the ignominious entry into the world of prostitution, family & personal relationships, & public perception/prejudice. One sister's daughter had the courage to be filmed & interviewed. There were graphic scenes with one of the sisters working with/on/for customers, which shouldn't be shocking all things considered, but still was a little.

A soft visit with charming twin prostitutes.
A window into the lives of aging identical twin prostitutes, Louise and Martine Fokkens, and their 50-some years in Amsterdam's red light district. The women are a little kooky, but very likable, and the sex business has never been less arousing (which is a good thing here). There are some explicit scenes, but they mostly elicit giggles. The girls share stories about their private lives but nothing ever goes too deep. I don't know what I expected, but I mostly enjoyed it because there aren't many documentaries out there about this subject matter.

An interesting documentary. Not for the faint of heart ...
An interesting documentary. Not for the faint of heart, it is very graphic. Shows a side of life that most of us don't relate to. Felt a lot of sympathy for the women who live this lifestyle.

Nicely shot and the sound track is well chosen
Interesting movie about two women who managed on their own in a time when it was not trendy to do so. Also, their sincere feelings for the men that they serviced lends a different perspective to the oldest profession. Nicely shot and the sound track is well chosen.

Meet the Fokkens - heard about it from the Documentary Festival in Toronto from a friend.
This movie was hilarious and touching. These women are such characters. Not a kids movie! This is a good evening of entertainment.
