Great wide toe box with excellent grip
Excellent shoes. I appreciate the effectiveness of the vibram grip, which has been really helpful in the ice and snow. I’ve also found the fit seems to get better after a decent break in period. I did use my own in-soles, and that caused the shoes to squeak with each step (loudly). My solution to get around this was to place dryer sheets or paper towels between the heel of the in-sole and the shoe. This stopped the squeaking.

Larger Altras
Comfortable and look good. Fit well. I have wide feet. They are much larger and heavier than my old Altras. Don’t pack as well.

Immediate Heel Blister.
This is the first Altra shoe I had to return. The shoe itself looks very well put together with high quality materials, although it is pretty heavy. There's a big cushioned bump on the inside of the shoe where your heal is. This gave me the first blister from an Altra shoe ever, within not even 2 miles of walking, and I was wearing wool socks. That's a first. The shoe is tighter, feels like I should have gotten an 11.5 instead of an 11 which usually fits me great with Lone Peaks. The laces are too short. Going back to Lone Peaks.

Well made, good for back
Hurt my feet at first, but that’s my fault for wearing poor shoes for a long time. Recommended by my podiatrist, many compliments on the blue color. Seem to be holding up well. Back pain is mostly gone. Usually spend 8-10 hours a day standing at work.

Great shoes for the long haul
I have run over 100 miles in both the Altra Olympus 6 as well as the Altra Lone Peak 7 and while both are great shoes, I think they serve different purposes. The Lone Peak is great for that ground contact feel on more technical trails where if you do roll an ankle, there’s less distance to travel to the ground and you might absorb it better and pop back up. The lesser stack height lets you feel trails a bit better and I think find your footing a bit better. However, with that lower stack height, it can sometimes be a bit tiring on your feet after more than 15-20 or so miles in my experience. The Olympus on the other hand is an ultra marathon beast that has a very grippy sole that is comfortable for a very long haul. If you’re doing longer and less technical routes like gravel, then it’s a great shoe that is comfy for a long time. However, in my experience, the Olympus is too tall of a shoe for more technical trails and actually led me to spraining my ankle multiple times during a race when I should’ve worn the Lone Peaks because of wet and technical trails. Both good shoes, I just think you have to know what trails you’re running and which shoe in your rotation makes the most sense. The star off is because Altra cannot figure out their own sizing and I had to size up a half size in the Olympus because the toe-box was too short otherwise. I am a 10.5 in Lone Peaks and 11 in Olympus for reference.

Comfort and traction
I decided on the Olympus 6 instead of the Lone Peak 9 for the added confort for long hikes. Every time I put these shoes on, I'm glad I bought them. The traction design on the bottom is great for steep dirt trails. Every time where I'd expect to slide, the shoes don't lose traction. My only con is I wish the heel loop was a smidge bigger, I striggle to put my finger in the loop to help put the shoes on.

High quality shoe. I just need a wider size.
Too tight in the toe box. Other than that, they seem to be durable and would have been great on the trails. I returned them to buy a pair that is a 12 wide, or a different style. Altras are the best shoes for running.

They're ok, not as cushioned as I was expecting. You NEED gaiters with these. My first run, 10k, on mostly pavement, I had to stop twice to dig stuff out of the shoe. The extra pad at the heel feels awkward at first, but within minutes, you dont even notice them. I suspect that these pads are the reason that gaiters are needed.
