Just what I needed to access the console connection of a network switch (Extreme Networks Summit X460-G2). On two Windows 10 PCs this adapter cable was automatically recognized for what it was, driver installed automatically and a COM3 port became available. I used this with a serial to RJ45 cable, the needed connection to the switch. A good thing too since this adapter cable is rather short to make such connections by itself. The “serial” end lights up to visually confirm the USB connection. Commentary: it’s a shame that still today I’m using a text-based serial port console connection to configure high-end devices. Why, for the price, the higher end devices don’t include a nothing-else-required complete web-based configuration. It’s stupid to need to learn the precise command line language just to set up such equipment. And that kills the possibility of remote support, instead needing to drive to a location to connect to the console port. Or go cheaper brands that include a FULL GUI web configuration - makes little sense!

I needed it to work with a Chroma Meter from Konica Minolta. Worked great!

This is a great option for connecting to Legacy GE drives that require a 9 pin Din to establish a connection to the drive. My new laptop doesn't have a serial port. This option allows me to utilize the USB port as a serial port.

This is the first time I've written poor review for an adapter which electrically functions but mechanically it's a mess. The equipment I need to connect to has a DB9F connector. This adapter has a DB9M connector. So far so good. Only this adapter has a nut instead of a screw. The photo in the listing for this device showed a nut, but the nuts are typically removable, they have a screw end on the opposite side. When I tried to remove the nut it just spun in the housing. It won't come off!! Fortunately I had a dremel tool handy. After breaking 4 cutoff wheels and some melted plastic I finally had something that would mate. This was an unnecessary problem. If the mfr simply used a screw then there would be no problem mating to another connector with a screw, because the screws are designed to have end play to retract out of the way of a nut. If they used neither a screw or a nut it would be no problem. If they used a nut which was removable it would have been no problem. If the connector you're mating to has a nut then don't buy this product, this manufacturer hasn't executed the normal and expected mechanical design effort for compatibility. One more thing, I was one of the lucky ones who did not need a driver. The device came with a CD but no driver link. Are these people stuck in the 20th century? Why not a download link in the product listing, or on the box, or on the CD? Why do we have to chase them for small stuff like this?? Next time I'll buy from a vendor who cares about their customers by taking care of the details so that we don't have to.

Laut Internetrecherchen gibts wohl 2 dominierende Chips für RS232-Anbindung. Den "guten" und den "nicht so guten". Der Nicht-so-Gute, so einen hatte ich wohl bisher. Ich kann von einem SICK CLV612 Scanner (den wir in der Arbeit einsetzten, ist ein Industrie-Barcode-Leser) zwar daten Lesen, aber es ist unmöglich eine Verbindung zum Scanner aufzubauen, also den Scanner anzufunken. Da passen die Pegel nicht, die Signalflanken, es fehlen Steuersignale, was weiß ich, es geht nicht. Hier diesen über Amazon-Vine geschossen, der funktioniert auf Anhieb einwandfrei. Und er blockiert mir keinen USB-A-Port, wo die Funkdongel von Tastatur und 3D-Maus wohnen... Workstation hat leider nicht mehr Ports für USB-A, aber USB-C war noch frei. Also mir passts.
