Methodist Doctrine: The Essentials, Revised Edition

I used this book as a Bible Study over the course of several weeks. I wholeheartedly recommend this for Bible Studies, small group studies, understanding more about Methodism in general, a reference book for sermons, etc. Great book!

I appreciate how Campbell gets to the core issues of what you need to know. There is a time for dissertation and there is a time to get to the heart of the matter. Campbell gets to the heart of the matter. This is a keeper.

I give this book 4 stars because thus far it does a fine job explaining the tenants (doctrine) of Methodism. I feel this book is a must read for people who are members of a Methodist church regardless of the specificity of Methodism. Also, it's a good read for people considering becoming Methodist and those new to the denomination. I know it will be helpful for ordination candidates in the Methodist church.

Great references and very clear. A must read for those wanting a clearer understanding of Methodist theology. A n excellent resource.

It helps understand what we stand for in less words than the Discipline, etc., which are nice to have also. This gives you info you can tell someone interested in Methodist Churches.

This is a great book to pass on to laity who are wondering just what Methodists believe. For the more adventurous I would encourage looking elsewhere for greater in depth study. This is not to negate the quality of the book nor the audience to whom Campbell writes. It's a good introduction to the subject matter.

As a person who is considering joining the UMC. I found this book very helpful in understanding the doctrine that the church believes. I recommend this book to anyone who is considering joining the church or any current Methodists that wish a deeper understanding of the doctrines of their church. The chapters are very well organized. There is amply notes to additional resources. I found the Article of Religion very helpful. The author is a very well respected leader in Methodist education and teaching.

This book we used in a study group. This really spells out the belief of a Methodist. I learned that Methodist according to the Doctrine only acknowledges to sacraments, not that we don't marry people or believe in confession, they are just not considered sacraments. If your wondering what you believe or what a Methodist is be sure to buy this book. It sure explained many things to me and I feel more comfortable about what I believe.
