Fixed our problem
We didn’t have a damper, so constant cool air draft into the house. This one came highly recommended by our chimney expert, he installed it quickly and simply and we are very happy with the result. It has multiple settings for how far open you’d like your chimney, but we always crank it open for you the fire and close it down all the way once the fire is extinguished. Really happy with product.

Overall decent part, but could use a few improvements.
Good build quality overall, installation is pretty easy and straightforward. Price seems way too high for such a simple part - must be due to high input cost of thick gauge stainless steel. A few things that could use some improvement:1 ) It would be nice to have a gasket to fully seal the damper.2) The sheet metal tabs bend upward to form the upstanding flange against where the damper seals, Where they come together there are small gaps. I sealed these with silicone.3) The actuator bracket assembly that mounts in the firebox - you can remove two screws and reverse one of the components if you're mounting it on the left side. One of these screws was stripped, so I had to drill it out and replace with a nut and bolt.

I like the simplicity and design of this cap, only issue was only 3 of the 4 provided screws could go in. One of the welded on threads that the screws go in is defective and unable to be used. Hoping 3 of 4 screws will keep it in place.

It Works!
Used this as an alternative to removing and replacing the old cast iron Vestal damper. Follow the instructions and do your homework on the placement of the opening and closing lever. It does take some effort to close the damper due to the 4 springs . This unit is made well and the cable moves smoothly. Use a good rtv sealant on the top of the flue liner. I fastened the open/close device to the firebox with Tapcon type screws rather than the sheet metal screws supplied. This damper seals perfectly. No more cold air down drafts and odors when the fireplace is not being used.
