Good but big bulb
This bulb does a great job as a CFL 3-way, decent color (not too blue), instant on, no noise. But, I agree with other reviewers, this is a big/big bulb, it is at least twice the size of conventional CFL bulbs (60 watt for example). It's 4 1/8" from the top of the base and 2.5" wide. It barely fit in our harp. Potential buyers should measure before ordering.

DON'T BELIEVE THE NAYSAYERS
These bulbs work GREAT. They are actually shorter than the 50/75/100 watt standard incandescent bulbs. I have had no issues fitting these bulbs in my lamps. The light is better than an incandescent. I had one of these bulbs in a lamp by my chair and a standard bulb by my wife's chair. The light was brighter and less yellow than the incandescent bulb. They do not make any noise and are far cooler than a standard bulb. Don't be fooled by earlier bulbs. They weren't as bright as advertised and put out a yellow light. These are far superior. The only drawback, though a small one, is they take a few minutes to warm up to full brightness. I have had CFL's in all my lights for years and even use them in my outside fixtures. I am changing them out for the newer CFL bulbs due to the better quality light. I highly recommend these bulbs. You don't have to buy the highest priced bulbs or LED's to light your home. For the price you can't beat these.

Inefficient / Not bright enough
This 3-way bulb isn't worth getting/using. The 12W setting is decent, not great. The 22W and 33W are a total waste, neither come close to a normal 20W CFL. See pictures.

Didn't Last Long
This bulb worked fine but only lasted 8 months until 2 of the 3 settings blew out. Very expensive for only 8 months.

Love the light, hate the fact that it fused out within a month!
I got this because of the reviews of it being a lovely warm light. So I got it with a floor lamp. The light bulb might've peaked out the top, but that wasn't an issue for me. I loved the color, and how the 3-way worked. It does take a few minutes for it to warm up to it's brightest, but that wasn't a problem for me.Today, barely a month after getting it, I went to turn on the light, and I heard a pop and my light went off the second I switched it on. The lowest setting died, the medium still works but it won't bother going any higher. It just stays at medium when I click it a third time. Very disappointing... and I didn't use my lamp on-and-off all day. I only turn it on in the evening and KEEP it on until I go to bed. I don't know if I would ever order this light again...

A good substitute for 3 way incandescents
These bulbs are the first I've found that match the color temperature of incandescent bulbs. There is some lag until they get to full illumination but it is less than others I have used. They are a bit pricey but the reduction in my electric bill has been significant. You get the same illumination at less than 50% of the wattage.

Trustworthy name, compact design
I bought this bulb instead of a cheaper three-way because I've been happy with other Sylvania CFLs, both in their compact design and in the availability of a brighter white option. I just received and installed this bulb, and it's living up to my hopes so far. It fits under a standard lamp harp, with about a half inch of clearance between the bulb and the harp. A little snug to get in, but if you first slip the bulb's base into the socket, and then align it vertically so you can screw it in, it's clear. I bought slightly larger sized harps in case I needed them, but I'll get to save them for other lamps. The color temperature is 3000K instead of 2700K, which means it's not quite so yellow, though it doesn't begin to edge over into the truly bright white or that cold blue. I do prefer this cleaner white.I don't see anything about "instant on" on the box, yet that does seem to be the case. Of course, it brightens as it warms up.If I am within three feet of the bulb and there is no ambient sound in the room - such as the refrigerator or forced-air furnace running - I can hear a slight hum from the bulb, which increases with each light level. It's so slight at the lowest level I can hardly hear it even when there's no other sound in the room. I wouldn't even mention it if I hadn't seen remarks on noise from reviewers of other bulbs.I can't review longevity, obviously. The last (cheaper) 3-way CFL I had developed a flicker when turned to its brightest that was so annoying it was unusable at that level. We seldom ever used it on Bright, so it wasn't due to running it hot for hours a day. But once in a while, one needs that extra boost. My hope is that spending a few extra dollars on this well-known brand will pay off in years of as-advertised service.

Bright with a buzz
This bulb - according to my son and others - gets very bright, brighter than the standard 3 way bulb it replaced. That's good. the top two settings make a buzzing sound that can be heard when the room is quiet; kind of sounds like a robot mosquito. It kind of annoys me but the dogs don't notice it at all so I guess I should just shut up and listen.
