Think a Great White Shark in Britain is codswallop? Think again...
An utterly compelling and detailed read from start to finish from the most respected source and record keeper in the U.K. Richard Peirce presents a very balanced view of the evidence, looking at each case from objective point of view, offering his considerable insight and experience into the available evidence and then allowing the reader to draw their own conclusions.I, like many others I'm sure, been fascinated for years by the prospect of a Great White Shark visiting our shores and this has further convinced me that we will one day see a confirmed sighting. There's just too much anecdotal evidence and co-incidence for it not to have happened already in my view. Permenant population of White Sharks? No or at least very highly unlikely. Occasional Vagrant visitor, yes.My own personal (and totally unproven) theory is that some GWS's are migrating between the East Coast USA and the Mediterrenean Sea, which some experts believe is a GWS birthing ground, and that we could get the odd vagrant in the UK from that given the very tolerable water temperature and food source such as seals and dolphins.Think this is all ridiculous? Fair enough. Food-for-thought: Take a look in the book as to where the nearest confirmed GWS sighting is in relation to the UK. Then consider that GWS's have been recorded swimming from South Africa to Australia, which is several thousand miles.Your call.

An excellent book..
It's a surprise really that a book like this hasn't been written before given the publics interest in shark sightings off the Uk. Almost every year one tabloid or another will announce a sighting! What makes this book so interesting is that it focuses on the Great White Shark. This animal fascinates people with its power and presence and to contemplate that it may be in UK waters is an incredible thought. I would encourage anyone with an interest in this subject to buy the book and read through. It contains years of experience and research from an author who has dedicated a great deal of his life to protecting sharks. The book itself is easy to read and come the next sighting of a shark fin off the British coast which the media will undoubtably run as a scare story you will at least have the truth of this splendid and endangered creature.

he is clearly very passionate about the possibility of Great Whites visiting our coastline
The enthusiasm of the author about this subject really shines through, he is clearly very passionate about the possibility of Great Whites visiting our coastline. The cases of potential sightings that are recorded in this book seem fully credible. Each case is not glorified in any way, which so easily could have been done when writing about this animal.Witness accounts are actually played down somewhat. Individuals not wanting to draw attention or indeed, reluctant to talk about their experience makes their account of perhaps seeing this fish in our waters, all the more believable.A thoroughly enjoyable book which leaves the reader pondering if, one day, there will be irrefutable proof that these mighty creatures do indeed, occasionally visit the waters around the UK.

Well researched book - easy reading
This well researched book provides a detailed insight into the enigma ofwhether or not great white sharks occasionally venture into British waters where they have never officially been recorded. With a handful of sightings reported as far back as the 1960's from credible witnesses who's close encounters with unknown large predatory sharks who's size, behaviour andmorphology can only be likened to that of a great white shark and no other species native to British waters leaves you pondering the question as to why the UK does not have a established great white shark population given the seemingly perfect marine conditions and available food sources. The sightings are chronologically ordered making for easy reading and the book would make an ideal gift for both nature & non-nature lovers.Definitely a 5 star review from me!!
