Good Value for the price
I used this chain hoist to remove the engine from my sailboat. It did exactly what I expected. I got the engine out. I have two complaints, First the entire hoist, chain and hooks are SOAKED in oil from the factory. I don't just mean oily, I mean absolutely DRIPPING with oil. It seems excessive. The other disappointment was the quality of the safety latches on the hooks. They are cheap and one was bent to the side. That being said, the chain hoist worked well and was easy to use. It made lifting the engine effortless. Also the hook to hook distance when fully retracted is only about a foot. This is important when working in close quarters. The bottom line, for the price, its a great value! I recommend it!

Great Lifting Advantage
I have two chain hoists: this one and a similar one I bought at HFreight. The two hoists are very similar and both work well, in case you're shopping around. I think the HFreight one was a few bucks cheaper. Check out my video for a look at the hoist in my shop and in action. I have the hoist on a DIY gantry, allowing me to move it around and move things in and out of my trucks. I haven't used it for things that weigh over 500 lbs, but it's rated for much more weight than I use it for. This is a very simple, manual tool. Attach the hook and pull the chain for lifting. Pull the chain the other way for lowering. It's that easy.

More than a shop tool.
I used this, paired with a Boss Buck Tripod Header II Unit with Pulley, to pull bushes. (I know, I know... the tripod is only rated for a ton, but it proved to be much stronger.) I'm pleased with the performance so far, after three lilacs. I put 1 ¼" galvanized pipe on the tripod for legs, capped off with floor flanges. The whole arrangement survived my 190 lb weight on the pull chain, several times. I'm learning as I go, finding that you have to wet the ground a day ahead of time to loosen things up. Then you take a half-inch pipe attached to a garden hose to wash a little chipmunk tunnel under the bush. ...Much easier than beating a hole through with a rod. Then you pull a piece of hanger wire attached to a light chain, which is followed by your heavier chain or cable (with only one hook). Pull it completely through under the root ball. Hook your heavier chain/cable to the hoist, and pull slowly. Fair warning: your wife will kid you about the muddy mess you are when you're done, but this is much more gratifying than tearing up the family car or garden tractor, and your lawn, to try, and fail, to pull bushes.

Good to go
Minus one star as the entire chain will change the color of your hands so needs gloves (avoiding cleaning it), and its more noisy than I'd like. Other than that, it was far cheaper for me to buy this than repair hydraulic lifts that I bought this to replace. It works good. I have other BIG RED products so went with this. I see some others have various issues. I'm only expecting to put up to about 200 lbs total on this, and so far its done that well and good, so likely won't test it above that. People *can* complain about the hook size. However, all hooks and hook type equipment generally won't get much into the hook because of the way they're designed. Instead of complaining, I ordered a d-ring shackle from another place although would have went with a Vevor shackle here on Amazon. These things are used in vehicle recovery and tend to break around 20k lbs so its not going to be a point of failure here and far more worth buying over complaining. It will fit on much more than hooks will and can be used for other things if wanting. There is a potential issue that I had seen. If the chain hits something like the ground, a table, or whatever, it can get tangled just enough to bind the tool as it can't go through like that. I expect some people may have had this as a problem and some may not realize. I backed it off and fixed the chain. Its a problem of chain methods and not of the product. Potentially there could be other issues such as with the locking mechanism as it suspends where it is (you don't need to keep holding the chain to keep something lifted). Loose bolts or debris could cause that to fail. I don't expect to see that happen to me, but I could see some factory QA problems cause that. Am happy enough with it. It has done what I needed it to do so far. *Will* update if that should ever change.

Superior lifting
Used this hoist, my Jet chariot, and a strongway 2 ton gantry to lift a 3 phase lathe into a trailer. Never even broke a sweat. Not a single hitch in the hoist.

Good value, works as it should.
I hung a 4" i beam for a hoist for lifting maybe 1/2 ton max. I thought about a small electric hoist but I'm tired of fairly new electrical appliances breaking lately so I went old school with this chain hoist and couldn't be happier. First job was picking the bed up off my pickup and it worked great! The chain loop does not take much effort to pull plus it lifts/lowers faster than I thought it would. No problem. Looking forward to never having to replace this. Sometimes old school is better nowadays. I think the I beam is about 14' up and the chain lift/lower loop is maybe 10' down so it's perfect.

Works perfectly!
The product came package well, open it up and mounted it in the ceiling of my shop to lift a 500 pound utility rack. It worked flawlessly. Definitely worth the investment.

Great but slow
I've never used a hoist before, and am intending to use this to lift some heavy items up to a tall shelf in my garage (a snowblower and a pressure washer). I'm blown away at the leverage this thing provides; lifting the pressure washer required so little effort that I'd have sworn I wasn't lifting anything. The flip side of this is that things lift VERY slowly. I realize this is good for safety, and presumably this isn't something you'd use to move stuff on a frequent basis, but the relative speed did make me wonder if I'd have been better off getting a powered one. However, given the price, frequency of use (infrequent), and safety implied by the slow lifting, I think this will be perfect for my needs.

Was looking for one ton but bought this one. Very good easy to use but little bit heavy. I would prefer 1 ton for normal Jobs

I am using three of these to suspend my boat trailer under the garage ceiling (so I can park my car under it). They are clearly overkill in terms of strength (the trailer is maybe 350 pounds total), but it goes up like a breeze and I have complete confidence it will stay up (as long as my concrete anchors hold in the ceiling). So these are perfect. One of the three arrived with the chain jammed as others have reported, but I suspect that's hard to avoid as they get tossed around during shipping. It was quickly fixed with a couple whacks from a hammer and well placed screwdriver. The chains are well greased as others have reported, so wear gloves. I'm all, these items are quite well built for my use (and fantastic value at the price). I'd happily order again.

Received this chain hoist today and put it to use right away to hoist my snow blower up into storage. I also used a few endless loop straps to grab 4 spots on the blower. The chain hoist lifted the snow blower that weighs around 300ish lbs with ease. Pros. Ready to use out of the box. Chain seems of good quality. Hooks look to be strong. Cons. Has a lot of black grease on the chain (easily fixed with a few shop rags and some brake cleaner would recommend wearing disposable gloves when opening for the first time) Overall i am impressed with the quality and will update my review if anything breaks.
