RTC batteries for the raspberry pi 5
One of the welcome innovations introduced with the Raspberry Pi 5 was the ability to connect a battery to back a real time clock. These holders are proving quite useful, protecting the battery from accidental contact, but also providing a plastic surface you can attach to some convenient place within the case. What I prefer in these over the wrapped/wired battery options is that, when the battery dies, these you can swap the battery out and keep using the enclosure. The other ones, you’re essentially tossing the entire thing out. Running any number of Raspberry Pi 5 systems, and needing that battery-backed RTC convenience, these are super handy to have on hand. Inexpensive, gets the job done, and even have an on/off toggle, should that be important to you.

Raspberry Pi website warns against using Lithium Ion batteries
I confess I didn't know exactly what these were for when i ordered them but I've been experimenting with all kinds of Raspberry Pi 5 accessories so I thought I would check them out. I actually thought they were a way of powering a Pi5 with a C2032 battery but they are designed as a back-up power supply for the Pi5's Real Time Clock (RTC) only. They are designed to take C2032 batteries but I note that the Raspberry Pi website warns not to use a Lithium Ion battery to backup the RTC. It's not clear to me if there is a danger here or it is only because the C2032 is not rechargeable. Apparently, there are rechargeable batteries that fit the 2032 form factor, and a note that the raspberry pie can automatically we charge the back up battery. But this is a bit beyond my interest in this capability.
