Im looking for duffle bags for my daughter to take on plane. is it so big that it would go over the 50 pound limit if full?

This is a HUGE bag, if full I doubt anyone could carry because it would be way over 50 lbs.

I need to put something that is 31 inches long, will this be able to carry it

hello, if your thing is narrow, it would fit diagonal. I have used it to fit a 26 inches baby car seat. There was some space left. So it depends on what you will carry.
