RS100-8 4" Reference Full-Range Driver 8 Ohm

Great quality speaker units! I used them in a pair of self build wall mounted MDF speaker cabinets for my sun room, where floor space is at a premium. When paired in a sealed (IB) 3.3 litre cabinet with a Dayton Audio ND105-PR 4" Aluminum Cone Passive Radiator these units provide almost all the high and midrange frequencies needed. I say almost as I found that adding in a Dayton Audio DC28F8 11/8" Silk Dome Tweeter (8 Ohm) just opened up the top end nicely. This is side firing to prevent the harmonic distortion associated with tweeters firing in the same plane. For the size of the Dayton Audio RS100-8 4" unit in these cabinets (external H260xD190xW140) the bass is very good but in my opinion, this needs the passive radiator to derive maximum low end potential. I drive the full range driver directly from the input but use a Sourcingmap 2 Pcs 100W 2-Way Speaker System Audio Crossover Filter Distributor as a second order filter to protect the tweeter from low frequencies. The resultant speaker shown is all that is needed in low volume (subjective) usage. For something a little more robust I have added a pair of spare KEF Q50s, laid flat behind my furniture and the overall sound is just stunning from classical to heavy (Rammstein). Out of interest, to ensure an 8ohm load back to my Mission Cyrus 3 amp (old school!) I split the sound between the speakers through an AV Link 4 Way Speaker Selector. Originally I bought a pair of JBL bookshelf speakers for £90 but they were awful so I thought why not upgrade my current homemade speaker drivers with these. No need for a crossover as this speaker has a decent range to cover lows and highs. Ok, it won't give you booming bass, but I use mine for TV viewing so not an issue. The bass is actually quite 'tight', so nice and clear and not boomy. Voices are also crystal clear and it also handles louder volumes without an issue, treble is not harsh even at higher volume, which you can get from a lot of cheaper speaker drivers. Overall I think this is a well balanced speaker.

A good efficient all round frequency response. Improved clarity of sound on existing sound system.

Taken me a while to fire up these bad boys but they are sounding pretty damn good.

This is not a 4inch speaker it’s actually 3.83inch and that’s not the driver the actual driver is 3.19inch! Not happy that I designed my build around your specs and there wrong.

Not impressed, metallic diaphragm with a characteristic signature, deep cone vanishes middle frequencies, high frequencies are a bit quiet, think to add a tweeter. Both from eBay from the same seller to replace the drivers from my old Maudio M-30 s. Mistake, in the end, I preferred do not replace any but just remove the crossover and add some damping. These drivers sound like a quality made Bluetooth speaker, but not suitable to make small desktop speakers. 5/5 to integrate a Bluetooth speaker, 3/5 for a desktop. In my case waste of money, I will integrate them nowhere, I will use them for experiments.

Fantastico piccolo full range di 3 pollici e mezzo, timbrica equivalente a bassi lineari e delicati, mai invasivi. Realizzando un box da 4 litri con accordo bass reflex, si riesce a scendere tranquillamente a 80hz di frequenza. Un po debole la risposta fuori asse delle alte frequenze

The outer edge between two screw holes is bent upwards making the whole driver not sit flush with an enclosure. Not sure if somebody damaged this before arrival or it is a defect from manufacturing.

Ottimo prodotto, arrivato nei tempi previsti, ben confezionato. inserito in una cassa bass reflex di 5 litri progettata ad hoc suona veramente bene. Molto lineare tra i 150 e i 16000 Hz, oltre non percepisco il suono. molto limpide e presenti le frequenze medie e alte, non necessita di super twiter. Anche dopo un ascolto prolungato non sono stancanti, molto dipend, ovviamente, dall'accuratezza del progetto. Buona tenuta in potenza (potenza RMS di targa 30 W), pilotate, con attenzione, con due finali Musical Fidelity da 50 W RMS in classe A. Non si possono certamente pretendere bassi potenti e presenti, visto il diametro ridotto 4" e l'efetivo diametro di lavoro del cono. Comunque messe alla corda con brani tipo "Toccata e fuga in D minore" di Back e "Private investigation" dei Dire Straits, non hanno riprodotto i bassi più profondi, ma non hanno nenche mostrato segni di distorsione. L'assenza di crossower non ha generato rotazioni di fase ed il risultato è stato apprezzabile su tutta la gamma. Abbinate ad un sub-woofer tagliato elettronicamente a 120 Hz ha ridato presenza alla gamma bassa, sono curioso di sentirle pilotate da un valvolare. Ottimo prodotto, consiglio l'acquisto, basta porre attenzione alla fase progettuale
