OK if you don't like beetroot
Beetroot juice has been receiving a bit of hype recently since some studies showed that it's naturally high nitrate levels can improve VO2Max levels and improve performance in endurance sporting events. I bought this box of 15 concentrated beetroot juice shots on the off-chance that it worked, looking for every possible help in completing a 6-day, 900-mile bike ride from Lands End to John O'Groats.Packaging wise, these shots are about the same size as a Red-Bull shot and made from a tough plastic that will withstand plenty of knocks. The wide mouth makes drinking easy enough and the 70ml in each bottle takes barely 3 or 4 gulps to finish - which can be a good thing if you're not mad-keen on the taste.Open one up and you're hit by a reasonably strong smell of beetroot - not unpleasant but unusual. These small shots are more concentrated than the bigger glass bottles, so the taste is a bit more intense and the consistency a little thicker, meaning you're best off giving them a bit of a shake before opening. They have a hint of lemon juice to take the earthy edge off the taste and it works well enough - after my initial trepidation, I actually found them to be quite palatable. Slightly sweet with that unmistakable earthiness of beetroot. They're not to everyones tastes though, I offerd them to a few fellow riders on LEJOG and they quickly declined after the tiniest of sips.Do they work? It's hard to say. I didn't fancy experinemting part way through such a big undertaking, so I took two bottles a day, one in the evening before going to sleep and another in the morning, about an hour before I started cycling. Over tyhe course of the 6 day ride I was pleased with my performance, I did better than I had feared. How much of it was down to the beetroot juice versus training is hard to say.The one impact that was easy to notice was the obvious discolouration of urine... don't be alarmed when, after drinking one or two a day, it starts to go decidedly pink. There's even a warning in the box to this effect. All things considered, I'm glad I bought it and I will probably buy more should I undertake any other significant endurance events. But I won't be making it a part of my every-day diet.

Impressive
I play squash. Vigorously (if not necessarily well...), and usually for 80 minutes at a time. Anyone that's played it knows that, good or bad, if you can get a competitive game against someone around your own standard, it's a lung-bursting sport, and I am fortunate enough to have a regular opponent where that is the case (unless I'm horribly off-form!). I ordered these, not knowing if they'd arrive in time, so had bought some cooked beetroot to take to work with me for a pre-game snack last week. They did arrive in time, so I had a late afternoon cheese & beetroot nibble (about 100-120g of beetroot), and 1 70ml bottle of this stuff. Today, I had no beetroot, just the 70ml of concentrated juice. On Friday, it'll be snack & juice again...It's difficult to be scientific & objective about performances from a purely personal perspective, but in both games I felt a noticeable improvement in stamina and respiration. I think the double dose of beetroot & juice worked better, but even today, on the juice alone, there was definitely an improvement over previous 'rootless games. Does it work? Yes, I think so, certainly enough to be worth the price of a pack for the sake of experimentation. Contrary to the description here, the ingredients on the bottle actually say 98% beetroot concentrate, 2% lemon juice (not apple). The taste, if you like beetroot, is slightly odd, but not unpleasant. The concentrate is noticeably sweet, surprisingly so for beetroot, but by no means sickly. If you don't like beetroot, you may not like it, but it's only 70ml - hold your nose & you can chug it in 2 or 3 mouthfuls (and yes, holding your nose will make the flavour less prominent). Will I buy any more? Probably not for some considerable time. That's not a reflection on the product. I grow my own veg & I'm hoping this pack will last long enough for the already sown seeds to be harvestable. And I have a sneaking feeling I will be out this weekend sowing a whole lot more to carry me through the summer & autumn & into winter! ;-)

Now part of my training routine
Having read about the science I tried it out as an experiment. The effect is very positive and has improved my daily running times significantly because breathing is noticeably easier - 6 miles a day. On longer runs - 12 miles on a Saturday - it took a few weeks for the effect to reach its maximum. I got to around half way quicker than usual but then faded more than usual in the second half. I assume that the increased oxygen supply required more energy and therefore it took a while for my body to adjust to the increased demands. Six months on and the effect up to a half marathon is very noticeable.

Good product. Bad customer service
Product great as usual but buyer sent one instead of the box of 15 as advertised and have had no feedback since. Still ongoing.

Good product but expensive
It does help with blood pressure and it tastes OK. However you can but this in one litre cartons at ASDA for £1.99

Is a very good product, and I really feel the difference
Is a very good product, and I really feel the difference, I just ordered the sport one for more nitrate. I don’t understand why people complain about the taste, if you don’t like beetroot don’t drink it, you don’t have to give a bad review. I will choose this more than every single Pre workout out there
