Good Value Core Ultra 5 ~ The touchscreen a nice bonus! - Beware it's Soldered RAM
Let's begin with the downside of this machine: Soldered RAM, so 16GB forever. But since the Lunar Lake chips will also have RAM onboard, with no option of 32GB, it seems 16GB just might be enough for the future... time will tell. The biggest positive so far is the battery life.Running Edge, the battery icon is quoting times of 16+ hours remaining on 80% battery, insane haha (Chrome seems to eat the battery faster, as does having multiple tabs open, which I found I don't need as it's easy to reopen recently closed tabs {another tip to save that finite RAM})As a consequence, I only charge it when it gets to 40% (that 65W charger is like have 10 6W LED lightbulbs on, who wants that at these electricity prices? haha)The fan hasn't switched on once, but I've only used it for web browsing and watching movies. The screen is nice, better than my old (12th gen) HP Envy, brighter colours, less light bleed.Sound is better too, despite having B&O speakers, the HP was at 100% volume for movies and still hard to hear in a quiet room, this Dell only needs 50%+ to be comfortably heard. What else? You'll get tired of Copilot's naff jokes real quick. But the biggest dealbreaker for me, that small UK left shift key, I have to stretch my left pinky like a gymnast to hit it, and I have to look, although I am getting better (with regular stretching haha)The strange enter key isn't much better, but I'm getting the hang of it (with regular stretching again)The keyboard feel isn't that great, so if you do a lot of typing, your wpm may suffer with this machine. (especially backspacing to delete the erroneous \\\\ when missing the left shift key)As I type this review, I feel the keyboard's shortcomings, not so much key travel, and maybe the keys are a tad smaller? I don't know, but it takes practice to get used to typing well on it.As for the touchscreen, I haven't really used it, but this machine is priced better than comparable machines without touchscreen, so why not get it? (oh yes, the soldered RAM)But now they're quoting 5 years before a laptop is kaput, so why worry about RAM when the motherboard or battery will fail? hahaHaving said that, my backup machine is an HP Pavilion zt3000 with 1GB RAM (upgraded from 512MB) & a Centrino mobile chip running XP, it's 20 years old, it still works, but alas it struggles with websites and I had to use my phone to search for a new laptop when everything modern broke at the same time.My last ASUS was 12 when its motherboard said bye bye.Oh, one more shortcoming: despite being a 16:10 screen, it doesn't have a number pad, so you have to hunt and peck if you need to enter a few figures. In conclusion:Great battery life thanks to Core UltraFree touchscreenLousy keyboardSoldered RAMBoth charging ports are on the same side - when will they realise we want them both sides? As I finish this review, the battery level is at 76% and time remaining 16h 52m hahaKeyboard still sucks though haha

Faulty after 3 months of minimal use...
The media could not be loaded. Used for less than 3 hours a week and after 3 months the screen suddenly turned off and loud buzzing noise started - the laptop was completely unresponsive. It took several hard resets to get it restarted. Now I have little confidence in continuing to use a new laptop costing over £1000. Apparently the window to return it closed after 4 weeks - hopeless.

Untrustworthy company
Build quality is OK but the units are released with known bugs, which is unacceptable. I know, as my employer uses Dell and hence I've unfortunately had to endure these for many years. These newer models perform well but some of the bugs render them not fit for purpose, for example the cursor randomly jumping to a totally different point on the screen while you're typing. Not acceptable. Another profiteeting company who need taking to the court of law.
