Gorgeous and Sweet
I loved everything about this. I love that the characters legit hated each other in the beginning. I loved the Robot Companion (did I cry over the projection scene? I’ll never tell), adored the steampunk-y setting.Alys’ story got me right in the heart and I hope to get more information on them in the upcoming books. You can tell immediately who else is getting their own books, but their development didn’t feel as intrusive as that sort of thing usually does in many books I’ve read. All in all, an interesting, fun ride and I’m looking forward to the next installment.

Fun and different
Alone in an underwater city full of people, engineer Mira comes face to face with the enemy. She finds herself saving an undine, who saves her in return. The undine have hated humans since they invaded the waters and polluted the sea around them. In an attempt to gain her trust and learn how to destroy the humans once and for all, Arges kidnaps Mira and whisks her off into the unknown. This book was so much fun: It’s enemies to lovers, they don’t speak the same language but Mira is smart and finds a way. They feel a bond between them and there’s a cute opinionated robot. It’s not super steamy and it’s not until the end but the building of their relationship was the star.

A hauntingly beautiful underwater romance experience
When the cover art is this beautiful, your expectations are HIGH for an equally as stunning story. THIS ONE DELIVERS.First of all, I can't remember the last time I read a post-apocalyptic story and I was incredibly intrigued by the premise of this world. The fact that humans were forced below the surface of the water and have to carve out a living in the depths of the deep blue sea? Color me intrigued.Second of all, the way society is striated and sequestered between huge underwater hubs that essentially all perform specific purposes for the survival of humankind? ALSO INTERESTING.Third and most important, the species of humanoid fish people that are furious over the presence of dirty, polluting humans is fascinating. They are not like the merpeople of our typical story-telling, nor are they like the sirens of classic literature. This type of fish-folk are in a unique class all their own and they are SAVAGE.Mira and Arges are an excellent foil - she's inquisitive and curious about the water world humanity is forced to live in and has a healthy respect for all life, while he's very interested in destroying and punishing all the humans for essentially bringing their poisonous existence under the waves. When circumstances place them in a forced proximity situation, Arges is determined to break Mira in an effort to uncover weaknesses to exploit.Mira's character and spirit were raw and relatable; she doesn't love the life she's got but she's doing her best to make the most of what she can. Her dreams and desires are essentially nonexistent in the face of survival, and even her skills at inventing and engineering are overlooked by the community around her. I felt like the way she is able to maintain her purity of spirit in light of the abandonment and loneliness of the journey she's been forced into taking was written beautifully.Arges is a ferocious warrior - there's no room in his existence for curiosity or empathy, especially when it comes to humans.. but the longer he spends time in Mira's presence, the more he begins to see how she can appreciate and absorb the beauty of underwater life. Mira's ability to teach Arges that not all humans are the same opens the door for a friendship to blossom, which allows for greater passion to burn.If you like:- when the MCs come from two different worlds - literally - and have to overcome incredible hurdles to understand each other- enemies to friends to lovers with a healthy does of forbidden romance- IMAGERY. DESCRIPTIVE WRITING. BEAUTIFUL PROSE.... make a plan to read this lovely story. You'll find yourself hugging your arms to your chest in joy at the way a person can see the world's beauty free of cynicism while fully embracing that tomorrow is never promised.

For fans of Tiffany Robert's but...
This kind of book i see and instantly download because i know its going to be a fun read. That being said. I'd say this was good and very readable. Finished in one sitting and i was a big fan of the Tiffany Robert's series that is similar to this so if you like that you would enjoy this! My only issue with this book was the pacing and sometimes felt very jumpy. There were a lot of scenes I thought was leading up to something and then it would just suddenly switch to something else. And the time skips? Idk a lot of the book she was just sitting in a cave but for soooo long? It would have made more sense if this whole book was like over the course of 2 weeks or something, at times it became very depressing because of how long she was going. Also not the biggest fan of how much both of them described how ugly the other is. Like I get why and u understand but cmon we could skip that and just say different or something. Half the time they were just straight up being mean to each other and it didn't make me like the mmc very much. With the length of the book if she is going to be gone so long might as well give them a real ending. Felt very rushed.Besides some weirdness my rating is such because if this was a standalone book i I wouldn't recommend but the 2nd one sounds real intriguing especially with the character and setup so I am interested in the next one!

Wonderful read
° The plot was so good and very well written° The main characters have dept° Even with lack of dialogue between the main characters in the beginning of the novel because of the language barrier the author was able to show us the chemistry between them° never a dull moment from start to finish

Thrilling monster romance with captivating characters and enchanting world-building
I love a good monster romance and this one was catering to everything I love about it. It was fun, it was gritty in a way and it was aaaaaall about climbing on that fish boy like a koala and not letting him get away. And they have a personal WALL-E!!!This reminded me a lot like Bioshock meets Avatar meets some deep water mermaid monster lore, and I ate it up! I loved the dynamic between Mira and Arges, the way the spark was there between them from the moment their eyes met, and the depth of the love for each other that they have developed as they got to know each other more and more.Plot wise, I don't think there was much to it, only just enough to give their romance some structure and tension, but I wasn't really expecting or wishing for a headache causing plot or drama. Sometimes you just have to wind down from the heavy stuff and enjoy some flicks in the meantime.I’m all about the Feels™ when reading, and this book got me in a chokehold from the start. I love these two and the world they're building for themselves and I can't wait to see how this world will expand in the next book.

ARC review (a bit late 😅)
⭐ 4.25/5🌶️ 1.5/5Many thanks to Emma Hamm for giving me the opportunity to read the book before its release, although due to some personal problems I wasn't able to read it until February. Thank you so much and sorry for the delay 😫.Short summary:Mira is an engineer in the underwater city Beta. One day she is working on a solo mission when she is kidnapped by the dangerous merman Argnes, who plans to use her to get information about humans and wipe them out. The two species have been at "war" for a long time and Argnes is determined to put an end to it once and for all.But as he spends time with her he begins to realise that their relationship is more than captive/captor and he can't stop thinking about her and more importantly, he can't let her go.Whispers of the Deep has left me super surprised, the truth is that I didn't expect such a good and well developed story at all. This was the first book I have read by Emma Hamm and 100% it won't be the last because her writing is impeccable and addictive. The romance builds slowly, which I loved. All the scientific aspects (fictional) I liked a lot, for example the barrier they had to communicate, I really liked how they ended up solving it.Argnes was a male character that I loved, quite possessive and protective and the interactions he had with Mira were the best.I don't really want to say more because I don't want to make any spoilers, but if you like monster romance, enemies to lovers and a good slow burn, this is the book for you.
