The lighter has a safety mechanism that prevents accidental release of any gas or flame when kept in you pocket or backpack.The lighter is extremely reliable and worked every time for the three years up until the day I lost it, I replaced it with this new one immediately as it was available on a next day delivery.The gas filling adapter is a cost option not included with the lighter, but is a must have if you use camping gas cylinders, as the adapter lets you refill the lighter from your camping gas cylinder. Got it for the toolbox so I always had something for solder cable connectors and I only refilled it when I got it and it’s lasted a few weeks unlike some other lighters which I assume leak gas.The lighters got a cool safety so it doesn’t start accidentally and the jet is very powerful so I would get another just for those candles that just don’t light with a flame

Arrived and worked once before ignition switch failed to work! Because it came from Amazon US, they make it extremely expensive and difficult to return. I am now left with a useless inoperative piece of plastic!NOT IMPRESSED!!!!

I have found that my SOTO Pocket Torch XT Lighter, ST-PT-XT meets ALL my requirements.It ignites every time (once the correct technique is mastered). It is powerful, and when used as a normal lighter, it only needs to be refilled on almost a weekly basis. It is precise in flame, and is easy to use when sealing threads and or cloth. Be warned however, it produces extreme heat directly above the flame, to a much greater extent than normal lighters. It is capable of producing sustained heat without overheating it's self. I never thought that I would see the day that I would recommend a lighter of any kind over ZIPPO. My Soto is now my E.D.C., and the ultimate lighter I now recommend to friends and colleagues. It is a mighty performer in ALL weathers in the field.

After several lighters breaking when out camping or lighting the kitchen gas cooker I decided to spend a little extra and bought this beauty, now light my stove in windy conditions without worry of gas blowing out, love how the lighter tube extends to prevent burning my fingers and the window on the side is a fantastic idea allowing you to see when it is full. Only gripe I have is the safety lock in middle of the trigger its a little hard getting used to it

Simple operation and a design that keeps fingers well away from the micro-stove I use for backpacking (unlike a simple BIC lighter). I really like the ability to refill (with an adaptor sold separately) from an iso-butane canister.

The flame has a smallish size, nothing special. The safety trigger is a good design and works fine both using and blocking an unwanted activation. The telescopic function also seems to be of ok quality, although a little bit flimsy.But, I cannot give this product more than one star, considering one huge safety aspect of this product.I love fire as much as I respect it. When this lighter is turned up to the max, it keeps on burning for around 1 second. I would say this lighter is more or less made to light a campfire or similar, meaning that you definitely do not want a flame where it doesn't belong. So if you drop this lighter, you will burn whatever it lands on. Clothes, grass, your dog, well anything. And for me, that automatically becomes a huge no-no, since fire can spread in a deadly way faster than you can act, with consequences not belonging in an amazon review.Soto makes very good products, but this product is, unfortunately, a huge miss.If you do not care about a super hot flame not going out when you release the button, all is good.
