One of the best memoirs I’ve read
Life affirming! Neko’s story unfolds like a Grimm's fairy tale. She deals with each cruel blow, each betrayal, with such courage and conviction. Her music has always moved me because I can hear something raw and universal in it. Her memoir does the same. She mixes a concoction of artistry, wonder and humor that is heady and impossible to put down.

Interesting memoir, very well written
I was looking forward to this when it came out because I love Neko’s songs. I was not disappointed. I always find peoples lives interesting and hers certainly is that. And her writing is unique and beautiful.

Interesting autobiography of a struggling musician
Review byLibrarian 826661Last updated on Nov 26 2024I had never heard of this author before,Neko Case. As a lover of R&R,esp.Acid Rock of the 70’s,Folk Music,R&B,Bluegrass ,Classical Music and Opera, never was into Country nor Alternative,Punk,Heavy Metal. I love reading all different bios, not just of the rich and/or famous. This was a quick read and interesting as to how coming from such a terrible upbringing with two parents that had issues from their own past, Neko not only survived with her love of music and dedication and determination to survive and succeed. Just putting up with being as part of traveling musicians in seedy bars, clubs, etc driving all over the U.S. either can make or break one, especially earning so little money for your efforts.Perseverance wins in the end if you have talent, love your craft as well as believe in yourself.Thank you NetGalley, and Grand Central Publishing for the opportunity to read this ebook.Book will be on sale,January 28,2025.

The road less traveled.
This is such a wonderfully unique story of a woman living in an economic and emotional poverty so difficult you feel like she's a waif out of a David Copperfield novel. In the first third of the book I wanted to adopt her to take her away from that sad, lonely life she had to survive as a mere child. Then she finds a family in the world of music which also at times abandons her. Time and again Neko pulls herself up by her bootstraps and gets on with the fight and drives towards self actualization and a sense of peace she derives from her animals. I have read a lot rock biographies and this one is definitely on my favorites list. Well done Ms Case!

Riveting Origin Story
I’ma big fan of Neko so was sold before I even started the book. That being said, she is a natural storyteller and I couldn’t put this book down! It was fascinating to hear the origin story of such a compelling, complex artist

The Glass Castle of music memoirs
Excellent writing. I devoured this book in one very long day of reading. A true heroine’s journey. Must-read for memoir junkies.
