Bought this book to help me with my camera. IT IS A LARGE BOOK full of information. TAKES you through camera settings and how to take various types of photos. It is a book I use now and again.I like to dip in and out of the book.THE Information given is very good. It is a standard book in that the information applies to most cameras available these days.

Good value and easy to use
I have a nirroless camera and, despite studying photography at art college as part of my graphic design course a million years ago, got out of the habit of "proper" photography. I've forgotten so much so chose this book as it seemed intuitive, not "dumbed down" and useful - it lives up to expectations.

DK Make good "how to" books
I chose this DK photo guide because they usually do a good job of illustrating simple theory. This book is no exception. If your recipient finds duration/aperture/sharpness/depth-of-field etc. difficult, this will save you having to explain it again and again. Flash and lighting gets a mention too.How to take a great photo in all sorts of situations is best covered by looking at relevant YouTube videos and experimenting; then practicing for the rest of your life!

Covers the basics well for beginners like me
I wanted to treat myself to a 'decent' camera, but not go completely mad on cost, and also understand the basics on how to produce better quality photos once I bought one. This book helped me to decide on camera type, and to understand the issues about sensor size, mega pixels and overall picture quality relative to eventual print sizes, allowing me confidently to avoid the cost of a full scale sensor, pro-standard item, while picking a camera with the other features that I feel I would need given my likely subject matters, as it goes through each photography topic one by one and explains with examples how the various camera setting adjustments are used to achieve different results. In short I wanted a hobby camera capable of producing print standard images upto small poster size if I want, and this book helped me to do that. I have now also bought a guide specific to my camera choice to help me through the myriad menu selection options for that camera, but will still refer to this book first to understand the principles behind the effects I want to achieve.

A must have
The book covers all the basics about DSLR cameras and lenses, and most of techniques/settings to use in specific situations. If you have any previous knowledge about photography (understanding exposure and basics of aperture, shutter speed and focal length) this book will be an easy read, yet giving you more understandig of correlation of each, and how one influences the other... Long story short, for any beginner starting to use his first DSLR (or mirrorless) this book is a must have to speed up the learning curve and minimise frustrations, especially considering low cost (got mine for 10£ incl shipping from UK to Croatia). For more advanced users, or a beginner after fully understanding this book, and after few months of practice, knowing what are you doing... there are other bigger books to consider, but this one is "the best first book for photography", not too big, not too small, covers all the basics and motivates you to go out and shoot.

The Beginner's Photography Guide
Excellent book to assist me on my photography journey, little disappointed as there was slight damage on the corners and the spine of the book due to inadequate packaging.
