What impact does the belief of millions of years have on worldwide culture and the Christian church?
The Lie dives in to the two prominent worldviews: one based on God's Word, the other based on naturalism and long time. The author defends the Biblical narrative of Creation, while fairly representing opposing views. A collection of research articles on various topics, there are numerous footnotes and quotations from various leaders throughout the history of this debate. The author doesn't ridicule those who believe differently than himself, he acknowledges that strict adherence to his worldview is not a requirement of salvation (though it could be symptomatic of other issues), and any person wanting to be equipped for conversations on this topic (including both lay people and more scholarly types) will find a wealth of information, communication tools, and encouragement.Highly recommended reading for anyone wanting to better understand the stark differences accompanying each worldview.

“The Lie” – Tragically, an appropriate title for this book
Ken Ham is a professional proponent of the Six-Day Creation cause, a misguided career choice if ever there was one. However, he is also a strong declarer of the Gospel, which is an admirable calling. It is a pity his ministry is a marriage of both. “The Lie” is one of its unfortunate progeny. The first half of “The Lie” is a most challenging document for the reader who is knowledgeable of both Scripture and historical sciences such as geology, evolution, quantum physics and astronomy. Much of what he writes defies commonsense. In order to sustain his philosophy Ken Ham has created a number of falsehoods; the first being to declare on his own authority that there are two types of science, “observational science”, which applies to present day observations, and “historical science”, which applies to the investigation of what happened the past. He tells the reader that the only ones who have any right to undertake “historical science” are those who believe in a literal Six-Day Creation – i.e. a strictly literal interpretation of Genesis 1. Anyone else who investigates the past is an evolutionist, atheist or agnostic and anything they say is inherently false. This is solely Ken Ham’s idea and, if true, it would destroy the careers of tens of thousands of scientists engaged in such work for commerce, government, the police and research institutions. The dishonesty does not stop there. Ken Ham manages to redefine “evolution” as a religion, not a science; totally ignoring its dictionary definition despite his willingness to use a dictionary to selectively define the word “religion” and then apply that definition to “evolution”. He declares without any proof whatsoever that all radiometric dating is false. Because he says it, it must be true. When it comes to addressing important issues such as evolution, and the age of the earth which he acknowledges is crucial to his position as well as that of science, he simply skirts around them by focusing the reader’s attention on what the Bible says and builds his logic on that. He never once addresses these issues from a true scientific perspective in a manner that an objective enquirer can examine. This is probably because there is no real scientific evidence to support his case. The old-earth theory and evolution are said to be conspiracy theories promoted by atheists who want to destroy Christianity, ignoring the fact that Darwin was a Christian who boldly acknowledged the Creator in his writings, a practice that is frowned upon in scientific papers for practical reasons. To Ken Ham all scientific discovery of a historical nature is “man’s word” and is therefore in opposition to “God’s word” the Bible. If Ken Ham’s view about historical science is true, no murderer would ever be convicted of a crime unless the investigator was a Six-Day Creationist. Another of Ken Ham’s declarations is that abortion, euthanasia, homosexuality and all other ills of society are directly or indirectly caused by the idea of evolution and an old earth and the consequent failure of the church to hold fast to a literal Six-Day Creation. The greatest tragedy of all is Ken Ham’s well founded concern with the loss of authority of the Scriptures in our modern society and the turning away from God by so many young people. He blames this on evolution and the old earth concepts that are taught at school and even in church. He fails to realise it is the strong adherence to the literal Six-Day Creation concept based on Genesis 1 that challenges their faith. Young people today are not stupid. Their classroom knowledge is far greater than that of 19th Century researchers such as James Hutton, Charles Darwin and Charles Lyell, who were working at the frontier of knowledge and were all trying to explain the origins of the earth and life from what they could observe in nature. At the time they had absolutely no idea how old the earth was although they suspected it had to be millions of years old. A suggestion of 40 million years was considered extreme. As we know scientific research has shown beyond all doubt that the earth is 4.5 billion years old and that evolution is a reality. This is logical. Young people today instinctively know it is true and they are not willing to buy into obvious falsehoods such as those promoted by Ken Ham.A quick Google search will reveal even to Ken Ham that the proven evolution of at least two new species of American goatsbeard wildflowers during the last century has been documented, but he still declares there is no evidence of evolution. The evidence is far greater than that but he ignores it all. Nowhere in his book does Ken Ham acknowledge or refer to any scientific discovery of any sort. He simply denigrates those who might believe in evolution, or an earth that is millions of years old, presumably myself included. For a book that is supposed to be opposed to evolution and a universe that is billions of years old, the complete absence of any data to support its position is an abysmal failure on its author’s part.If only Christians could connect Genesis 1 in the Bible with scientific discoveries concerning the Big Bang and all that happened from then until the present day, the long lost authority of Scripture might be restored and the credibility of the Bible and the Gospel might return to the church. My own research has shown every sentence and phrase in Genesis 1 fits in with scientific discovery with remarkable accuracy, and it is not hard to figure it out, and I am a Christian who believes in the Big Bang and in evolution. In the meantime, the world has to suffer the deception promoted by Ken Ham, and the church will continue to wilt on the vine as its credibility and loss of confidence in the Scriptures continues to fail.Unfortunately “The Lie” receives an extremely high approval rating from Amazon subscribers however this only shows that there are a huge number of true believers who have swallowed Ken Ham’s falsehoods and spurious reasoning. For myself I commend him for his compassion for the lost and his diligence in preaching the Gospel, however the falsehoods at the core of his appropriately named book “The Lie” still makes it worthy of only one star, if that. It is not a book I could recommend to anybody for any reason whatsoever.

What I've learned from The Lie
The Lie was a great read. Very challenging. As I mentioned to a friend at church today this book will challenge the foundations of your faith. By that I mean what Ham introduces makes you really "check" your beliefs. Although this book starts of slow, at least for me, it got really going about page100. Ham uses real life examples of people that have been affected by the Answers in a Genesis ministry, like students and professionals. Sections of the book also present thoughts about evolution and how those thoughts can lead to other troubles. Ham doesn't pull any punches, just as the atheist does to the Christian, the road gets rough ( if you're on the wrong side) Lastly the call to modern church to wake up an teach the upcoming generation of the factual basis for God.As I said, this book will challenge, but inspire you and help you understand why we as Christians believe what we believe.

Foundational for Christians
Ken Ham writes in the same flowing and interesting way that he speaks about the important truth that the bible can be trusted, and that a literal Genesis is foundational to most Christian doctrine. Recommended to anyone seeking support for the truth of Genesis, and for anyone seeking to strengthen their faith in the Gospel and the inerrancy of the bible. This updated version has even more to recommend itself to readers than the original.

great book that opened my eyes
Great book. Ken Ham fearlessly takes on the worlds scientists with such passion, revealing the truth that most people are not told- that the same evidence used for evolution can also be used for the creationist view. The difference is belief and worldview. It’s a great read and very convincing for those with an open mind

Remarkable Book! Important Subject, Presented Very Clearly, and Easily Understood
This book is absolutely great, it really explains why people turn from having God's Word as absolute authority, and shows you what to do about it. The cover with the "LIE" cutout to the cool picture underneath gets caught on stuff when I put it in my bag, but the book itself is actually nice quality. Ken Ham has done so much to further the truth about the book of Genesis, I really appreciate his ministry and this amazing book.
