🔧 Elevate Your Craftsmanship with Precision!
The General Tools 195-1/2 Countersink Bit is a high-speed steel drill bit designed for professional-grade woodworking. With a 1/2-inch diameter and a unique 6 flute rose pattern, it ensures chatter-free countersinking across various materials, including wood, steel, and plastic. Its 82-degree point angle allows for precise screw placement, making it an essential tool for furniture, cabinets, and small projects.

Not great for aluminum
This countersink works very well, but using it for a couple of hundred holes in 1/4" aluminum plate revealed a slight issue. The aluminum likes to stick to the countersink. Not really a fault of the tool, as aluminum likes to stick to high speed steel tooling in general. Great value for the money, but a cobalt or carbide tool may be a better option if you need it for a lot of aluminum.Still, if you don't want to spend 5x the money for a bit, this is a great value.

Worth the Money - Will Buy Again
A quality countersink at a decent price seems to be harder to find than it should be. I work with primarily wood and aluminum and this quickly and cleanly chews through both. A nice side note is the length of the shaft - it seems to be longer than others I have purchased in stores, which comes in handy in awkward situations/angles. As this one dulls out, which they all do eventually, I will come back to buy another.

Great on aluminum
Some of these reviewers don’t know what they’re doing. This type of bit is going to chatter if you aren’t using a drill press (and even then if you try to go too fast), it’s not the bit’s fault. At the very least you’d need one with a pilot, but then you’re looking at a whole set with one for each size hole.I set the press to the lowest speed and it shaved a bunch of deep countersinks in aluminum L-track like it was cheese and left a nice shiny perfectly round hole for some 3/8” countersunk bolts. For drilling you usually go high speed low pressure on aluminum, but in this case that was just very loud and hot (the countersink still came out nice and round but looked rough from the million tiny cuts instead of one steady slice). It’s HSS, so I’m only expecting it to last for this one project, and so far so good after a dozen 3/4” holes. Great value for the money. If you’re doing this all the time, get a single flute cobalt set for like $200, otherwise you can’t complain.

Worked well
I've used a dozen times or so on mild steel, aluminum, and wood with my drill (no drill press). No issues yet. No chatter.

It works for me !
As advertised, works fine in hardwood , you just need to pay attention to speed and pressure. I have used this in hickory, oak and ash, all came out clean with no splintering, or burning. There may be higher quality Countersink bits available, but for the price, this meets my needs just fine.

Reloading brass clean primer pocket
I bought this to clean up the primer pocket 9n 300 blackout. Doesn't take much to take out that box crimp and carry on. Works like a champ and casings work flawlessly. Just a light touch and a little deburring.

You need one of these!
If you don't have a countersink bit, you don't know what you're missing. This one works real well, as it has 7 flutes. For years I just used a larger size bit to make countersinks - I don't build pianos or rocket ships, so I never needed real precision. However, I somehow got a countersink bit, and OMG - they work so easy compared to using a large bit. The countersink bits will never grab and drill deeper than you want - they cut slowly but cleanly. If you don't own one, get this one - it is large enough to do everything - I don't think I'll ever need a countersink that is 3/4 inch diameter, but if I do, now I've got it. This one looks very well made, it drills cleanly. I use it for steel, aluminum and plastic. Works great.

I didn't personally run into the issues with the bad cutting edges on mine that some of the other reviewers did, mine was well machined especially considering the price vs similar ones I've seen with only one or two cutting edges for the same price.I haven't used the bit in metal, but I have used it in both standard wood and MDF. In MDF the bit made a very smooth countersink as one would expect from a soft and uniform material like MDF. In the 2x6's I countersunk however it was very chattery at times which was seemingly dependent on the grain in the area. However it was never chattery enough that the inconsistencies would be visible once the screws were installed. at least with the #10 and #12 screws I was using anyways.I should also note that these were drilled with a hand drill and not a drill press, if a drill press was used instead its quite likely it wouldn't chatter at all as the pressure and alignment would have been more uniform. That being said given the price point and so fourth I feel its still fair to judge its performance when used with a hand drill because thats its most likely use case from people who will be buying it and it doesn't explicitly say its intended to be used with a drill press exclusively.

Preliminary review :Item arrives in a nice plastic display package which you have to cut open to access the countersink. First thing I did with this tool, as I always do, is inspect the cutting edges. This proved deceiving, as two of the 5 flutes had bad machining grooves, as if a cut was started but then interrupted because it was too deep, and restarted higher. (This can be seen in the second photo). The final grind on the tool is of questionable quality too, with a not so shiny surface finish. The three good cutting edges seem relatively sharp enough to the touch, although that will have to be assessed in use.Longer review to come.In short :Bads : - Two cutting edges out of the 5 are bad out of the box (see 2nd photo)Neutral : - Grind is okayGoods : - It's inexpensive!

Mi primera impresión es que ha resuelto bien mis trabajos y deja bordes limpios en la madera.
Definitivamente buena y con la presión justa se pueden hacer fácilmente agujeros limpios en la madera.
