The Mouse with the Question Mark Tail

I submit that Peck is one of the greatest writers I've ever read.
I fell in love with Richard Peck books with Granny D and A Long Way from Chicago and had to have everything he'd ever written!! When I saw this, I had to have it. He's like Terry Pratchett for me. I have to collect them all.Great book that everyone will love. I bought my sister a copy too! So good!

Enchant a child. Read this book out loud.
We would all be a step up in the social order if we wrote as well as Richard Peck's protagonist mouse. His book is filled with wit delivered in short bursts and lyrical phrases. It is without question and beyond doubt intended to be read out loud to those between five and ten years-old sitting on the floor or lying in a bed. It is a magnetic story, delightful from the opening sentence: "Every time a human walks out of a room, something with more feet walks in."The young mouse adventurer rides in the ear of a horse, hangs from the claws of airborne bats, chats with Queen Victoria. When bouncing back from adversity, he says things like: "My heart didn't sing, but it began to hum a bit." He listens quite respectfully to the formidable Queen when she advises: "No, we do not know everything ... But there is nothing we cannot find out."Page after charming, vibrant page Richard Peck uses words the way Fred Astaire used dancing shoes. Any child would be thrilled and thankful to the wise adult who sweeps away the day's fatigue to jointly celebrate several evenings in the company of the Mouse with the Question Mark Tail.

Mouse with the ? tail.
It was interesting, I think children will especiallly enjoy the book, and the ending was delightful, and all ofthe trials that the mouse had to go through to find our who he really was.I am giving the book to my grandson for his birthday.

Not for beginner readers.
When this book was ordered from Prime Books I thought it was for young readers, however it is more for maybe 5th through 7th grade. It is a nice book and I will read it to my grandson until he can read it to me. Lovely story.

Another Richard Peck Classic
I love Richard Peck's books. The writing is superb and the stories are fresh and unique. This book could very well be a classic family read-aloud book of the quality of Charlotte's Web . There are British terms and references to nobility that will require some explanation and the opportunity to share a little history so it is not for the very young. Can't wait to read it with my 8 year old granddaughter.

Fine, but not more
Well-written and at times whimsical, i was a little disappointed nonetheless in this book. I am sure that it would be excellent to read aloud to a child, but as an adult who adores children's literature, i was not especially engaged and easily put it down to read over three separate sittings. It was very difficult to identify with the protagonist and since this is a first-person narrated tale, that was a problem.

A lovely read
A wonderful book to sit and read with a child. For most kids I'd say 1st or 2nd grade but it depends upon the child. I read it to see if I should put it on the shelf until my 1 year old granddaughter is old enough to really enjoy. I'm certain this will become a favorite.

A good read
A very enjoyable book to read - my 5 year old son loved it and it made a change to the usual run of the mill short stories we had been reading him at bed time.
