Look no further than 8BitDo to upgrade beyond the basic controller
5 star product, 5 star shipping (received in less than 24 hours), 5 star brand. Definitely recommend. I'm upgrading from a wireless Nintendo Switch Pro controller to this 8BitDo Pro 2 Bluetooth controller and the differences are huge. First off, I'll admit it's a possibility that I ended up with a modestly defective Nintendo Switch Pro controller, but since the day I removed it from the box, I have been fighting with with how extremely small the area is that the thumbsticks shift from neutral (not moving) to full tilt (moving at the fastest rate allowed). Before a thumbstick was even tilted halfway across the allowed area, it was responding as though it was at maximum tilt. It made several adventure games, stealth games, first person games and especially shooters literally impossible to play. By comparison to the above described officially licensed Nintendo controller, is like day and night. I haven't even delved into the customizable options for the 8BitDo Pro 2 and I don't think I'll ever really need to. Aside from a properly functioning progressive tilt sensor in each thumbstick, the controller feels solid in my hands, and while I wasn't sure how I would feel about the texture on the underside of the controller, I'm happy to say that its barely noticeable by touch, though it absolutely does discreetly increase your grip on the controller. I briefly turned the rumble on for a few hits from enemies while playing Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and can confirm that it has a solid set of motors for vibration functionality. I have not yet used the custom back buttons, and read that several people had issues with unintentionally pressing them, but even in my large hands, I have not accidentally pressed either a single time. Triggers are generously springy, but have excellent responsiveness when pulled, and button clicks are pleasantly mild in volume level. You'll always know when you've pressed them in, but it doesn't become annoying, even after an hour or 2 playing a fighting game. amazing controller, hands down the best third party wireless controller I've ever purchased.

Excellent for retro gaming, and is a great all-rounder.
I used this controller to play Super Mario World, and can say it feels just like an official SNES controller, with massive quality of life controllers that make it my go-to for gaming of all generations. It's an excellent, highly reliable and well built controller. It's worth investing in a great controller. Great for both Raspberry Pi and PC and Switch, all at the same time. You'll be hard pressed to find a better retro game pad than this one. I would recommend the one without grips if your hands are smaller, but this one is very comfortable for long play sessions. 8BitDo's controller has useful features, such as Turbo, button remapping, gyro, switchable modes, profiles, and macros. Highly recommend, and is worth it for retro gaming over something like a PS4/PS5 controller, or even Nintendo's own offerings. Very closely matches the layout of a Super Nintendo controller, and as a result feels very similar to that official controller.

great controller
I've purchased multiple 8bitdo controllers now (bottom 2 in the picture are the Pro 2, the top one is 8bitdo as well, I got it for my youngest so the joystick would be closer to her thumb), they are consistently high quality, easy to use and customize, and the website is full of information on how to update them and make custom profiles with their "ultimate software". I've successfully used them with my computer, an old wii, and now the switch 2. The controllers have a nice weight to them, are durable (having been dropped by my kids and button-mashed with all the fury of an 8 year old trying to win against their older sibling), and they hold a charge for a long time while not taking very long to charge up. I've been very pleased with how easily they pair with the switch 2 once you've connected them the first time. I've noticed a couple times when joining in on a game on the switch 2, connecting a controller can cause the cursor on the switch 2 for player 1 to get stuck in one direction, but I'm not sure if this is an issue with these controllers or the switch 2, or some combo. Turning off the software and reopening it has resolved it the few times I've seen it happen.

Great Controller with Minor Nitpicks
The 8BitDo Pro 2 controller is a great general purpose controller for casual gaming. Very comfortable, durable, easy to connect, stylish, and compatible. However, for me personally, I have a couple of nitpicks. The D-Pad uses a tactile style where to get an input, the player has to press down a bit definitively. This could be a good thing so players don’t make accidental inputs, but for me, it’s not quite the feel I was looking for. Retro controllers such as an NES or SNES controller had membrane D-Pads where inputs required less of a press to make contact and to me are snappier and preferable. Furthermore, the face buttons on the Pro 2 follow the same pattern, slightly more of a press required than those previously mentioned retro controllers. Not a total deal breaker, but for me who was in the market to get a controller closely mimicking the feel of something retro, it’s not quite it. That’s not to say I haven’t found myself using it here or there for more modern games that don’t require precise D-Pad or face button inputs, it works excellent for such. Overall, I’d recommend it for certain users, but not picky ones such as myself.

Amazing
I'll have to update my review further down the line, but having used this for nearly a week- it's awesome. The controller profiles are easy to implement, and switch to on the fly without needing to always use the app. Having individual profiles for specific games is incredible. I started playing Smash Ultimate with the dpad. Way less accidental inputs. It's also simply comfortable, and it's probably the second best d-pad I've ever used, second to the series x controller. No unintended direction presses. You can press the whole dpad down, but it doesn't seem to really matter at all. Just know that for switch 2, you need to update the controller with firmware on 8bitdo's site. The swappable battery and the hall effect sticks hopefully mean this will last me a very long time in an age of controllers malfunctioning often. UPDATE: Two months later, the controller is still awesome and continues to function. I don't really have anything else to add, but I feel like this controller will continue to last me a long time- hopefully past the end of the Switch 2's life.

Great controller for PC, iPad, and the Switch 2
I bought this controller mainly to use with my PC and my iPad. I've been using it for about 5 months and it has been working really well. The battery life is great, the buttons and joysticks feel great to use, and the haptics work great as well. The software (also available as an app on iPad) is also pretty decent and lets me customize the buttons (including the back paddle buttons). I had to use it for my iPad since it was using the Nintendo Switch button scheme (with the A and B buttons swapped) instead of the Xbox input scheme I was used to from PC. The nice thing is that it remembers the last device that was connected to based on the switch on the back. For PC, you're supposed to use the 'X' option, and for iOS/iPadOS, the 'D' option. It remembers the device connected to for each of the different options, which is really nice so that I don't have to reconnect it from my Bluetooth settings over and over again. Overall, I'm really glad I bought this controller and would highly recommend it, especially for PC or iPad gaming. I haven't tried it with my Switch so I can't comment on that. Update: I wanted to confirm that this works with the Switch 2 as well. It required a firmware update (you can get it from the company's website). After updating the firmware and changing the option to 'S' on the back of the controller, it was able to sync and connect with my Switch 2. It works great!

I ordered the dark model, and the button labels are dark against dark
Nice controller. Smooth, responsive, works well with bluetooth. The only "complaint" I can think of is, I ordered the dark model, and the button labels are dark against dark. My bad on choosing this color. (I am an old fart and don't see well in dim light anymore) It is also fairly sturdy, as I have dropped it numerous times, and so far, everything that flew off, snaps back together. lol Consider me the destructive tester......

Good, but could be better.
This thing is amazing for using on Android or on your PC, but I wouldn't say it's the BEST in the market. It's still a great controller, but the lack of dongle does make it a bit less worth the price. It's extremely responsive, and the thing seems durable. I recommend using this for PS2 games if you have a PS2 controller adapter from 8BitDo

A well-made, versatile controller that supports pretty much every platform
I've been using this for about 2 months at the time of writing this review. Firstly, I love how this feels in my hand. The build quality feels premium. The d-pad is a joy, doesn't feel clicky. The joysticks and buttons feel great too. I've played with Xbox controllers (360, One, Series X) and PS 4 controllers. With the Xbox controllers, I used to have pain on my palm after intense sessions. This one goes for hours (amazing battery life too, by the way) without any discomfort on my hands. And if you run out of battery, you can take out the included pack and swap in a couple of AA cells. Also worth mentioning that even though the layout is that of a PS4/Switch controller, you can change configuration to an Xbox controller via their software, store the config directly on the controller and switch to it with 1 button. Love that, since I'm used to Xbox controllers. I use it paired with either my NVDIA Shield TV Pro for GeForce NOW gaming, or with my Macbook, and it works smooth with both. Rumble isn't supported by the Shield unfortunately, but that isn't 8bitdo's fault. Overall, a solid, well-made controller that is worth the money.
