Yoko Saito's Traditional Block Patterns: Bag and Quilt Projects Using 66 Traditional Patchwork Blocks

I love this book.
To be honest I bought this for one old block pattern I have been searching for for several years - so yes it was an expensive pattern. However I am pleasantly surprised by the entire book.I have several of Yoko Saito's books and this is by far the best I have to date. There is considerably more english instructions than the other books I have and as always great eye candy. However it is, as with mostl of her books, not for the real beginner. It is assumed you know how to construct a quilt, how to calculate fabric requirements, and work a cutting plan or that you have a great stash of 'to die for fabrics' at your finger tips, if you want to turn the blocks into quilts. She does however give some instruction on how to put together a couple of shapes and blocks and make templates.I am more inspired by this book more than any of the others I have and will definitly make some of the projects which are; various bags, a quilt and wall hangings. Maybe I will return to the other books and see them in a slightly different light now.If you are just after traditional block patterns you could find these in many other places, and much cheaper as there are many other 'block' books out there. These however, are done in Yoko Saito's famous style which is the point of difference and the projects in this book are, for me anyway, achievable. If you are a beginner and love her style and believe you will continue to quilt (and really who wouldnt, once you've tried it) I would suggest buying it before it goes out of print, but it is not necessarily the book to start your quilt journey with. Experience has shown it is a nightmare to find her books once the print run is done and English translations especially just get hellishly expensive. It is a beatiful book, I love it and I would recommend it for the experienced quilter.

Inspiring for taupe artists/quilters...
I bought this only for color choices on blocks. She manages to combine taupes to create interest and I feel my choices are often boring. I will have to re-size the block size and the method (I prefer to machine chain piece although seeing her pictures of hand piecing -almost- inspire me to do that again) but for color choice alone this book is amazing if you are into taupes. For me, the appliqué floral border alone would have made the purchase worthwhile! Beautiful book.

Too difficult.
The description should have mentioned the size of the blocks. They were translated from Japenese.Correct sizing could have been a problem too
