Mr. James is a compelling storyteller, weaving in history and details about the courses he played, along with anecdotes from his personal life. A very well written and enjoyable book.

Great book about someone who came from nothing, accomplished an incredible career, mixed with the randomness of the golf community to help out a fellow golfer to accomplish the improbable goal of playing the top 100 courses in America. Its a feel good story of both how hard work and determination can get you to be successful in business, combined with the golf universe community randomly helping out a total stranger in some cases to achieve his goal.I enjoyed every page of Playing from the Rough.

Jimmie is so likable you want to play 18 with him. However, light on golf. I wanted more details on golf clubs and courses I will never be able to play. Maybe in his second book?

What a great book. Jimmie is an awesome storyteller and writer. I couldn't put the book down. His life story is remarkable and his journey was so fun to follow. Highly recommend for anyone who loves golf or human interest stories

It is captivating as he shared his journey from impoverished youth to a senior officer at Exxon. An average player helped by a multitude of people who understood his quest and provided personal help along the way with generous introductions so he could complete the 100 in one year. Quite a read .
